Sam Duggan Team GB forward says one of the best moments of his carrier is being named in his first World Championship squad is one of the best moments of his young career.

According to Belfast Giants, the 18-year-old, who has already represented GB at under-18 and under-20 level, was called into the full men’s squad for next week’s World Championship Division 1 Group B in Belfast by Pete Russell when he named his 23-man roster on Sunday.

However, Sam Duggan said: “It is really difficult to find the words to describe how I felt, the excitement kicked in right away that’s for sure.

“I feel I am ready for the challenge ahead and, of course, extremely proud to be representing Great Britain in a World Championship.

“It has been a goal of mine since I was little to make this team, so it means an awful lot to me to get the call up.

“I have been fortunate enough to have success in Sweden and also with previous GB junior teams, but this definitely ranks up there with the best of them.”

GB will host their first men’s World Championship for 25 years when the six-team tournament begins in Belfast on Sunday.

Moreover, Britain face promoted Netherlands, relegated Japan, as well as Croatia, Estonia and Lithuania.

“It makes it more special that we’re in front of our home crowd,” continued Sam Duggan.

“Anytime you get to play in front of your friends and family with everyone rooting for you, it gives you that little extra boost, so that will be huge for us.”
