As we all know that Startimes is a platform that offers cable solution in a direct-to-home Pay-TV.  They have been popular for the kinds of channels they have adopted and how easy people can reach the channels over the years.

They have come out to explain the reason why they came into Nigeria with such a huge investment of about $220 Million.

In their words, They came to enrich the country’s Television viewers’ experiences. In the words of the Vice president of StarTimes, Ms. GUO Zi Qi, the organisation has been in direct partnership with NTA (Nigerian Television Authority) and over the years has built the decoder with over 170 channels ad 150 actors in its kitty.

During the launch of Chineese Animation Season in Abuja, the Director General of the NTA Mr Yakubu Ibn Mohammed who was ably represented by the Director of programmes Mallam Rabiu Adamu lamented that despite that almost every child is fascinated by video animation and cartoons, there is not a single dedicated cartoon channel that is African in origin and content on any of the Television network currently operating in Nigeria.

He said maybe due to the country’s local content producers and animators not having access to the huge funding and technical know-how required to produce such animated content.

“This trend if not healthy for us as a nation, because our children today are the leaders of tomorrow who should b embodiments of our culture and value, we need more local animated content and i hope we can collaborate with foreign partners to achieve this objective” he said.

On his part, the chines Attachê in Nigeia Mr. Li Xuda said the importance of China and Nigeria relationship is mutual in social, economic and cultural spheres.

The Executive Directors of Nigerian Film and Video censors board (NFVCB) Mr. Adedayo Thomas stressed that china is Nigeria’s biggest trading partners. He stressed that in the area of film and animation content production, their attention is also needed.
