After squashing their 17-year-old beef, veteran comedian Bright Okpocha alias Basketmouth opens up on the reason his colleague AY Makun won’t be performing at his Lagos show this Sunday. It would be recalled that prior to this year, the two big names in the comedy industry hadn’t really been on best of terms. Apparently, their issue dates back to an incident that occurred 17 years ago which caused them to quarrel for over a decade, avoiding and refusing to speak with each other.

Basketmouth. Although Basketmouth had publicly apologized to AY and put an end to their longstanding beef, he revealed that he wont be performing at his event that holds tonight. By way of explanation, he said that AY Makun wouldn’t be performing or making a cameo at the event which is set to hold at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, because the event is scripted.

AY Makun. He made this known while speaking in an interview with the TV channel, Arise TV news. Basketmouth said … “AY is not on the bill to perform but he has got a ticket. He’s attending. I sent him his ticket a few days ago. “I knew a lot of people have been asking, ‘Is he [AY] gonna perform?’ He’s not on the bill. “In actual fact, I don’t have that many comedians on the bill. I know Bovi is introducing me. Senator, Dan The Humorous and Aproko from Abuja are performing. I got a few people from Ghana as well. “AY can’t even make a cameo because my show is already designed. We are recording for TV so it’s a three-hour set. As we speak the guys directing and producing they just came into the country about a few days ago. “And before they even landed, we had already sealed the whole flow of the show. It’s not the kind of show where anybody would just get on stage. It’s not that kind of show. Everything is timed. Precision to perfection.”

Nollywood actor and comedian, Ayodeji Makun, aka AY, says he would feel happy to leave the world without speaking to Basket Mouth and Julius Agwu. Ay made it clear that he is done making efforts towards reconciling with his colleagues, Basketmouth and Julius Agwu, who he has had long standing issues with. Recall, Basketmouth and AY have been entangled in a 17-year-old beef, which AY claimed was over an unpaid N30,00 debt owed him by Basketmouth. On his part, Basketmouth debunked the allegation claiming that he and AY were never friends and that contrary to AY’s claim that he was not allowed to attend his wedding, he never invited AY. Julius Agwu on the other hand granted an interview where he accused AY of organizing a comedy show on a date that many know he does his own show. In a fresh interview with Teju Babyface, AY said he has made efforts to reconcile with the duo but to no avail and that at this point, he will be happy if he goes to his grave without reconciling with the duo. He made it clear that their senior colleagues are aware of his efforts to reconcile with the duo and that the senior colleagues asked him to stop with the reconciliations if the parties involved are not yielding. “The bros [senior colleagues in the comedy industry] knew and at some point in time, they had to ask me to slow down. They were like: ‘You’re doing too much. You are putting in too much to make this thing work. Friendship is not by force. I was believing that ‘No, this can work’. Even in my last stand-up comedy, I had to go on stage and I did another routine ‘My guy. How’s my guy? This is my guy. If you see this guy, tell him he’s my guy.’ And the following morning, every where exploded again. ‘We are not friends. We are not that. We are not this.’ So, for me now, I’m not pushing anything anymore. As I’m here now as AY, if I have to go to my grave without sitting with any of these guys to say ‘hello, ‘hi,’ I will be happy.” he said. Watch the video below:

According to AY, he purchased a car for his wife some time back and shared it online. However a few days after sharing the post, Basketmouth shared a post condemning showing off on social media. He said; “Something happened that never happened in the history of my knowing Bright Okpocha. Bright Okpocha would not bring himself on the level to apologise to you on anything. “So, there was a post he made, about people showing off cars, people who just go online and show off stuff when they buy stuff and everything. “Incidentally, I posted a ride I got my wife two days to that tweet, so people went on his page and were like, ‘Oh, this must be referring to AY’ and for the first time, Bright Okpocha, he carried his phone and called me. If you see how happy I was. Like he called me practically like, ‘guy, see wetin I dey hear o, people are relating what I posted to you, it has nothing to do with you.’ “I was very appreciative of the fact that the Master called, which is very rare, he will never stoop that low. ‘So, that the Master called, I was happy. My belief was that, that is now going to form the balance that I’ve been craving for us to have.”

It is worth noting that the feud allegedly began due to a ₦30,000 debt which Basketmouth owed AY. At the time, AY had filled in as a replacement comedian for Basketmouth at an event he had introduced him to. The guests had expressed their displeasure initially, but became excited after AY’s performance.

Basketmouth

Basketmouth, on the other hand, claimed that he did not receive payment for the gig because AY had substituted for him, hence the feud. However, in the recent video, AY was seen at a show, throwing jabs at Basketmouth. Ay was heard saying: “30k Baboon, from the zoo, I’m a Baboon. Basket.” Watch the video below:
