Funke Akindele breaks record with new movie grossing 1 Billion

Nigerian actress, Funke Akindele is on the receiving end of congratulations as her new movie, ‘A tribe called Judah’, becomes first in Nollywood to gross One Billion Naira at the box office. The former politician cum actress is currently receiving several accolades for her great milestone in the Nigerian film industry. She achieved popularity for her role as ‘Jenifa’, in a 2008 comedy-drama. She prolonged the series as a producer when she started her own version, Jenifa’s diary. Nigerian actress and producer, Funke Akindele. She also had a short stint as a politician when she ran under PDP as Deputy Governor for the 2023 Lagos Gubernatorial elections. Today, she is the first Nigerian to ever beat the record of highest grossing Nollywood movie. Nollywood actress and box office queen, Funke Akindele has dedicated her latest movie, A Tribe Called Judah to her late mother. On Sunday, December 10, the actress hosted the premiere of her highly anticipated movie, which attracted the attention of numerous celebrities.

Never one to be outdone, Funke threw a lavish premiere party for her latest production. The presence of celebrities from various sectors of the entertainment industry honoured the filmmaker at the event.

Nigerian actress, Juliana Olayode has reacted after reuniting with her colleague and mentor, Funke Akindele on her new movie project. Juliana was announced as part of the cast of Funke’s upcoming film, A Tribe Called Judah, alongside Ebele Okaro, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Timini Egbuson, and others.

On Monday, the actress uploaded a trailer for the film on her Instagram account, and fans flocked to the comments section to express their delight at the actress reuniting with the filmmaker six years after her dramatic exit from Funke’s hit series Jenifa’s Dairy. The rift between the two actresses started in 2017 after Juliana was dropped from the series due to monetary issues. However, the 27-year-old claimed in a lengthy Instagram apology post in May 2023 that her lack of understanding of the movie business caused her to hurt Funke whom she described as a miracle God used to bring her to fame.

Juliana posted a video of herself on Instagram on Tuesday, showing off her dance moves, while expressing her joy at her return to Funke’s Scene One TV family. Juliana captioned the post to thank Funke for giving her the chance to portray Hilda on A Tribe Called Judah. She also said that she was so excited to be working with Funke that she ended up crying on set. She wrote; “We are COMING!!!
