Yaya Toure – some readers have voted in overwhelming support of CAF’s decision to exclude the Ivorian from their 30-man shortlist.
There was some consternation when Caf omitted four-time African Footballer of the Year Yaya Toure from their 30-man shortlist for the 2016 award.
Between 2011 and 2015, the Manchester City powerhouse was untouchable as the continent’s finest player, winning the continent’s grandest individual award a record four consecutive times.
While it hasn’t been a vintage year for Toure, who is currently exiled from the City first team after finding himself at loggerheads with Citizens coach Pep Guardiola, he did reach the Champions League final with the Sky Blues earlier in the year…and there aren’t too many African players who can claim that!

Indeed, Goal’s Solace Chukwu speculated recently that Toure’s omission could have been a consequence of his decision to criticise Africa’s footballing body after they voted Aubameyang as 2015’s finest player.
While the Gabon international’s goals for Borussia Dortmund certainly deserved credit, Toure was left feeling scorned after believing that Caf had unduly overlooked his Cup of Nations success with the Cote d’Ivoire.
However, while Chukwu believes that Toure can feel hard done by for missing out on the 30-man shortlist for the 2016 prize, he doesn’t have the backing of Goal’s fans.
According to a recent poll, only 29 percent of respondents believed that the West African deserved a spot in Caf’s shortlist, while an overwhelming 71 percent insisted that the veteran had no part among the nominees.
