Tribalism is disgusting - Asa reacts to people being attacked in Lagos

Superstar singer, Asa has reacted to the violence and tribalism recorded in some parts of Lagos state during the presidential and national assembly elections conducted yesterday, February 25.

Recall that yesterday, there were reports of thugs disrupting the proceedings by tearing ballot papers and even snatching people’s phones to stop them from recording. Multiple online reports also alleged that some voters were assaulted at some polling units. An eyewitness also posted a video of a man openly threatening people who don’t plan to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to go home.

The singer who disclosed that she is a first-time voter, said she voted yesterday and it was peaceful. Asa however noted that she is saddened that people were attacked in Lagos. She added that tribalism is disgusting. She tweeted; “I arrived my polling station at 6h30 yesterday, voted at 13h45 peacefully. Saddened that people were attacked around Lagos! Popular Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa, terms a colleague of hers a ‘bloody ingrate’ for referring to her former sponsor as a thug.

The actress took to her Instagram to call out a particular colleague who used to receive financial support from someone she now calls a thug. INEC to cancel polling unit in Kwara over ballot box snatching

Malam Attahiru Madami, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kwara state, stated that the outcome of Polling Unit 10 in Tsaragi will be invalidated due to an incident of ballot box snatching by miscreants on Saturday.

Madami explained to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the decision to cancel the results aligns with the regulations governing the election process. He attributed the delay in the arrival of INEC officials and materials to certain parts of Ilorin West and subsequent disruption in the commencement of voting at the Registration Area Centre (RAC). “It took us up to 11a.m. before will finished the distribution of logistic and immediately I knew we are starting late. I extended the time of voting until the last person on queue voted”, he said According to the REC, ballot boxes were stolen from just one out of the 2,887 polling units in Kwara, indicating a low incidence of such incidents. Additionally, the commission did not utilize vehicles belonging to any of the political parties participating in the election to distribute materials, contrary to rumours.

Tinubu beats Obi, Atiku at 12 LGAs in Ekiti

According to the Ekiti State Presiding Officer for INEC, Prof Akeem Lasisi, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, emerged victorious in 12 out of the 16 local governments in the elections.

Lagos Police to investigate polling units where voters forced to vote APC

Lagos State Police Command has said that it would be investigating polling unit where voters were forced to vote candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin made the announcement while reacting to a video which captured the moment a political thug told voters who won’t vote for the ruling party at a polling unit in Fehintola Giwa Street Aguda, Surulere, to go home. The unidentified man was heard saying “If you no fit vote APC for here, go your house. Nobody force you come here. I go come look am, if I see you vote another party, you go enter wahala.” Hundeyin who reacted to the video averred that the threat is criminal and against the Electoral Act 2022. Plateau State Governor and Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Simon Lalong, loses his polling unit to the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The Plateau state Governor voted at Polling Unit 015, Kurumbo ward B in Shendam Local Government Area. After the votes were counted yesterday, February 25, Sowan Paul, the INEC presiding officer in the unit, announced that Labour Presidential candidate, Peter Obi scored 104 votes, APC scored 88 votes and PDP scored 8 votes in the presidential election.

However, the APC won the senatorial and House of Representatives election in the unit. Governor Lalong is contesting for the senatorial seat in the district on the platform of the APC.

Actress Ireti Doyle has reacted to the widespread violence and irregularities that marred the presidential and national assembly election yesterday, February 25.

In a tweet she shared, Ireti stated that the “structure” which most political parties boast of is nothing more than political theft and violence. The Nollywood veteran also averred that what played out yesterday meant that most of those “intellectual postulations” are just “posturing”. She also said that she would bembarrasseded if she was in that position.

EFCC arrest 3 Nigerians in possession of 20 PVCs

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC made an arrest of 3 Nigerians, who were in possession of 20 PVCs.

According to reports gathered from the commission’s official Twitter page, the 3 Nigerians were arrested in Benin. One of the suspects, Afekhana Esther, was arrested at Ward 1, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ikpoba Okha, Benin City with 20 PVCs belonging to different people. Esther claimed that Comfort Muoneke, a 73-year-old woman, and Segun Osaimokhai handed the PVCs over to her. EFCC promises to arraign them in court, as soon as the investigation is completed.
