2023 breaks records as hottest year ever

2023 breaks records as hottest year ever

on Thursday, the United Nations’ World Meteorological Organization (WMO) declared 2023 as the hottest year ever recorded, emphasizing the urgent need for immediate global intervention to mitigate the devastating impacts of climate change. WMO Chief Petteri Taalas expressed the severity of the situation. “It’s a deafening cacophony of broken records.” the chief said. The report outlined alarming statistics, highlighting that greenhouse gas levels, global temperatures, and sea level rise have all reached unprecedented highs, while Antarctic sea ice has hit a record low.

2023 breaks records as hottest year ever - UN raises alarm

The WMO’s provisional 2023 State of the Global Climate report, released as leaders convened in Dubai for the UN COP28 climate conference, painted a grim picture of a world grappling with the aftermath of extreme weather events that have left “a trail of devastation and despair.” United Nations Chief Antonio Guterres urged world leaders to take immediate action in response to the record-breaking heat findings. He remarked that the revelations “should send shivers down the spines of world leaders,” emphasizing the critical nature of the current situation. Scientists had set a target under the 2015 Paris Climate Accords to limit global warming to well below two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and ideally 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, the WMO’s report revealed that by the end of October 2023, temperatures were already approximately 1.4 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial baseline. The report further noted that the difference between the first 10 months of 2023 and the previously record-setting years of 2016 and 2020 was so substantial that the final two months were unlikely to alter the ranking. Additionally, the past nine years were identified as the hottest since modern record-keeping began. WMO Chief Petteri Taalas emphasized the urgency of the situation. “These are more than just statistics,” and warned of the imminent risk of losing the race to preserve glaciers and curb sea-level rise. He stressed the necessity of immediate action to address the evolving climate crisis, he said. The WMO report also raised concerns about the El Niño weather phenomenon, which emerged mid-year, predicting that it is likely to exacerbate the heat in 2024. El Niño, a naturally occurring climate pattern associated with increased global temperatures, typically influences the following year’s weather patterns.

Mohbad: “Taking care of your child doesn’t mean they’d take care of you”

GistReel Entertainment

Nkechi Blessing’s ex-boyfriend, Opeyemi Falegan stirs reactions as he uses the late Mohbad and his father in a case study of raising children and being cared for in old age. It is worth noting that the late Mohbad passed on some months ago amidst suspicious circumstances and his death has since generated waves of controversy.

opeyemi falegan

Opeyemi in a recent post via his Instagram page penned a note of advice to men and how their efforts on their children may be fruitless in old age. Indirectly citing how the late Mohbad reunited with his mother ten years after she abandoned their family, and how his father took the blame for his death, Opeyemi urged men to prepare for almost the same fate.

Mohbad:

Mohbad’s Father “(message to Men) That u took care of your child doesn’t mean ur child would take care of u.
Take care of yourself first abeg. ( this man na case study ooo ),” he wrote. The statement, however, crossed many as insensitive and unwarranted while many berated the idea of Mohbad’s father being responsible to his family. Netizen’s reactions to the case study of Opeyemi Falegan involving Mohbad osakwe_chiagozigom said: “Was he a good father to his son ?” aderonke30bg noted: “E jus dey pain me cause na dis man suffer for that boy 😢.” charlemagne_bon stated: “Parents as una de train children, make una try the save to take good care of una selves for old age.. children no be grantee say them go take good care of you… With these generation children.” iam_for_signs_and__wonders said: “Mohbad was actually good to his dad when he was alive.” lucy_ukuma wrote: “He bought him two cars, a plot of land, bought clothes, monthly upkeep, was even taking girlfriend to his house. She has been deported from UK

"She has been deported from UK"

A Nigerian nurse employed in the UK has found herself at the center of controversy, leading to her dismissal and subsequent deportation. The incident unfolded when the nurse, whose identity remains undisclosed, allegedly offered unsolicited prayers for an elderly patient under her care. The story was brought to light through a Twitter post by Dr. Olufunmilayo, who shared the unfortunate incident.

"She has been deported from UK" - Nigerian nurse sacked abroad for praying for patient

According to the narrative, the Nigerian health worker had been working in the UK under an agency, specializing in providing care for elderly individuals. However, her actions took an unexpected turn when she reportedly prayed for a patient who was facing a terminal condition. “I just read the sad story of a Nigerian who came to the UK and was employed by an agency to work as a carer for elderly people. She was assigned to care for an elderly patient who was dying, and she was reported for “praying for the client to get better”. Yeah. She got sacked and deported.”  The consequences for this seemingly compassionate act were severe, as the nurse not only lost her job but was also deported back to Nigeria. Dr. Olufunmilayo shed light on the situation, emphasizing that in the UK, health workers are bound by ethical standards that discourage the imposition of religious views on patients. Explaining the rationale behind the dismissal and subsequent deportation, Dr. Olufunmilayo wrote; “For those expressing shock at the sack and deportation, let me explain further. As a health worker/carer in the UK, it is unethical to involve religion or impose your religious views on patients/clients. It’s seen as an abuse of trust and misuse of your position. You are expected to simply do your job and focus on your job.” Netizens Reactions… @OgbeniDipo said; “Rule number one, mind your business. Two, do your job. Ah!” @Obaibueku said; “She doesn’t know her work ethics. She learnt the hard way. If I’m planing to travel to Japan, I for don study the country, watch YouTube videos, read personal blogs and posts on forums. Know how they behave there.”  @big_Samin commented; “She’s not employed to pray but rather to work for the elderly patients. Nigerian with the mentality that prayers solved everything.”  See below;

“Superfetation or Irish Twins?”- Nigerian woman stuns many with rare birth of babies; one 5 months old and other 2 weeks old

"Superfetation or Irish Twins?"- Nigerian woman stuns many with rare birth of babies; one 5 months old and other 2 weeks old

A young Nigerian woman, identified as @little.orangeboy, shared an extraordinary and rare occurrence involving her two babies, aged five months and two weeks respectively. The video, posted on her social media account, showcases the infants side by side on a bed as she poses a thought-provoking question to her audience. The mother intrigued viewers by asking if they could identify the type of births her children represent, considering their age difference.

"Superfetation or Irish Twins?"- Nigerian woman stuns many with rare birth of babies; one 5 months old and other 2 weeks old

Many viewers expressed amazement at the notion that a two-week-old and a five-month-old could be siblings, let alone offspring of the same mother. Cleveland Clinic, a renowned medical institution, shed light on this unusual situation, terming it as “superfetation.” Superfetation is an exceptionally rare event characterized by becoming pregnant while already carrying a developing embryo in the uterus. The clinic explained that physiological changes during pregnancy typically make it extremely challenging for a woman to conceive while already pregnant. However, the online discussion took an interesting turn, with some netizens in the comment section suggesting an alternative explanation—Irish twins. According to Healthline, Irish twins refer to siblings born within a 12-month period to the same mother. This term originated in the 1800s, initially serving as a lighthearted way to poke fun at Irish Catholic immigrant families who lacked access to birth control. Netizens Reactions… @user1240424292119 said; “It happens , is called superfetation, you get pregnant months after you are already pregnant.” @kaltonkeron said; “Its only me who doesn’t understand Irish twins.” @joychidinma980 said; “They’re actually Dutch twins not Irish cause Irish twins are always more than 12 months apart.” @Chi_thrift said; “Isn’t called superfetation?? It’s actually a process of getting pregnant while pregnant.” @anonymously said; “Irish twins I’ve heard but never seen one, God bless you.” @Janin Ba’akba | Mama said; “I’m an Irish-twin mom soon to be Irish-triplet mom.. but you have superfetation twins not Irish twins!” @user3533658260368 said; “How comes i never hard of this Irish twins before… wonders shall never end indeed we can’t stop learning new things.”  @swtrhema1 said; “Its possible d 2 weeks wasn’t developing as fast as d 5 months. In her words, “Men don’t like to hear that you are going to have more than one child. Even after I was admitted, my man never showed up. “One time, a very young boy heckled at me saying I had been cursed by my mother to die without a child. “Many people judged and abused me for being barren but, I decided to leave everything to the Almighty God who has finally answered my prayers.” Speaking to NTV, the 70-year-old Ms. Namukwaya revealed that this marks her second delivery within in three years, with her firstborn, a girl named Sarah, arriving in 2020. Although Ms. Namukwaya’s situation is uncommon, it is not unprecedented for a woman to give birth at an older age.
