Nigerian skit-maker and online comedienne Mariam Apaokagi, popularly known as Taaooma, has officially launched her foundation—the Mariam Apaokagi Initiative. According to Punch, the foundation is dedicated to providing assistance to the less privileged in society, with a primary focus on her birthplace, Ilorin, Kwara State. The unveiling of the Mariam Apaokagi Initiative took place during Taaooma’s courtesy visit to the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, at his residence in Ilorin. During the meeting, Taaooma shared her vision for the foundation and expressed her commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those in need. Detailing the various programs to be undertaken by the foundation, Taaooma emphasized that the initiative is her way of giving back to society.
She also sought the senator’s support and collaboration for the success of the foundation. Senator Mustapha commended Taaooma for her laudable initiative, assuring her that his doors would always be open for collaboration. The lawmaker, who is the Turaki of Ilorin, charged the skitmaker on value-driven content that can help stem the tide of drug abuse and other forms of criminalities in society. The senator also stressed the significance of vocational education for the youth, highlighting its role in job creation and as a tool to empower the younger generation. He encouraged Taaooma to focus on content that promotes positive values and contributes to the fight against social vices.
