Abroad-based boyfriend chased away by girlfriend's parent after he returned to Nigeria marry their daughter

A family has made headlines after canceling their daughter’s wedding, by chasing away the abroad-based boyfriend. The unexpected decision was made in response to the fiancé’s refusal to invite the girl’s family to see him abroad before his wedding. They had asked that her boyfriend send her an invitation to join him in Europe before their December wedding, according to @T_nsofor on Twitter. The abroad-based boyfriend had already arranged for the lady to resign from her work, obtain a passport, and prepare to relocate with her fiancé following the wedding.

The parents, on the other hand, believed it was critical to follow the Igbo practice of probing and questioning before the marriage. Despite his parents’ insistence, the fiancé was hesitant to send the invitation. Nsofor wrote; “Around January, this girl got engaged, and did an introduction, her fiancé lives in Europe and the plan was a December wedding this year. “He asked her to quit her job, get a passport & start preparing to move with him after the wedding. Her parents told him to send her an invite so that she could see the situation of things where he lives before the wedding and that they would sponsor the trip.  “He has been reluctant and making excuses to do this. he came back to Nigeria Last week and went to her parents for wedding plans and they chased him away.” “I believe that the Igbo tradition of investigating and asking questions before the marriage and 2 different types of visits done before the marriage to the groom’s family or wherever she will be living after the marriage is very important and helpful with modern marriages.”

Giwa highlighted that many other people who had relocated abroad had it worse, with some having their spouses back home and their marriages going through even more difficulties. He said: “What’s the point? Relocating will test you and your marriage in different ways. Please be sure before you copy anyone and sell all you have to move.
However, if you find yourself stuck, have a good exit plan even if it means coming back home to start over. “Many people and marriages are breaking due to the pressure unplanned. Don’t go this route, do your findings well, your home depends on it,” he said.
They were always at the mercy of the home office and this made them feel unsettled even while working.” After thinking this through, the couple quietly came back to Nigeria to start life afresh and decades on, everything they sought abroad got handed to them back home. @drham reacted: “Interesting! The moral of this story is- do not engage in illegal relocation, and if you do, have 2-3 backup plans. Whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well and carefully planned! I’m glad things are working well for you now!” @Adetade6 commented: “Maybe it’s the oldskool in me, honestly, I have never for once consider japa for any reason be it hustle or settling down.” @Oluwakayy reacted: “Moral of the story. Never leave your country as an illegal immigrant. That’s the part you ought to have underscored. Most Nigerians leaving at this time leaves with student or work visa, so their reality is different. Of course, it’s not all bed of roses but it’s far better.” See the tweet below: The relocation story you don’t get told. He, however, suggested the alternative of home-schooling his daughter until she is above 5 years old with the help of his mother. In Arinze’s words; “My daughter’s daycare tuition is going to be $1950 per month. I’ve just instructed my mum, her grandmother, to pack her bags and get ready to travel. She was a teacher before retiring. She is about to come out of retirement. My daughter should get ready to be home-schooled till she is 5. I didn’t kill my parents. My daughter is not going to kill me.”
