The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, who’s also an uncle to music superstar, Davido, has revealed how he went back to school to earn a degree following attacks from the opposition after he contested for the 2018 governorship position in his state. Adeleke while speaking at the combined 9th undergraduate and 5th postgraduate convocation ceremonies of the Adeleke University, Ede, Osun state, on Sunday said after losing the 2018 governorship election, he was subjected to the worst personality attacks and assaults.

Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke About 75 postgraduate and 537 undergraduate students were conferred with various degrees at the Adeleke University. The governor while addressing the students added that he had to leave the country to escape the attack and to complete his degree programme, after his elder brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, insisted he must complete his education or forgo his 2022 governorship ambition. Adeleke advised that age should not be seen as a barrier to pursuing educational dreams, saying one of the conditions he was given before his 2022 governorship ambition was for him to complete his education. He said, “Dr Tajudeen Adeleke encouraged me to move ahead. Before I went on exile, he called me to a meeting where we discussed. He told me that I should look at what I have been subjected to by those saying I was not educated. He advised that I should go to (the United States of) America for studies. “He said the only thing I can do for Osun people if I am ready to be governor, I must get educated, I must complete my education; that without completing it, I should forget my governorship ambition. “At my age then, I successfully re-enrolled and completed my degree programme. I am proud of that achievement and I thank my family and friends for their total support. “I came back to re-contest in 2022 as a brand new graduate. The rest is now history. What is the lesson? Our age must never be a barrier to educational pursuit. What we need is commitment and passion to succeed.” In his remarks, Dr Deji Adeleke, who is the founder of the university, said if Nigerians resolved to change the country for better, it could be achieved. He called on Nigerians that desire a good country to contribute their quota to nation-building and stop apportioning blame to those in positions of authority.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State angrily walked out of the Osogbo central Eid ground on Wednesday over a poor seating arrangement which prevented the governor from observing the two raka’at rite. It was gathered that a former Senate spokesperson, Senator Ajibola Basiru escaped being mobbed by hoodlums attempting to forcefully move him from where he was sitting at the Eid ground.

However, some politicians approached him and told him he was occupying the Governor’s space and the senator moved to another space on the row, but they insisted he must leave the row for another for the Governor and his entourage. The Senator, however, insisted on seating on the row which created controversy and some hoodlums began to create a scene, and coincidentally the Governor arrived at the Eid ground at the time but could not leave his vehicle for his seat. The Governor eventually stayed in his car because of the scenario and could not observe the two raka’at prayer. It was gathered that attempt to arrest the senator was eventually foiled as he was said to have left the ground with Chief Badmus after the prayer rites.

“I will govern with the fear of God” – Governor Adeleke reacts after Supreme Court ruling

Governor Ademola Adeleke has reacted to the Supreme Court ruling with an assurance to govern the people with the fear of God. Recall that in the late hours of yesterday afternoon, the Supreme Court led by Justice Emmanuel Agim, dismissed an appeal against Ademola Adeleke’s election victory by Adegboyega Oyetola, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Reacting to the judgment, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to God while assuring the people of his good ruling. Adeleke while speaking in his hometown, Ede, described the judgment as “a historic landmark in the history of Osun politics”. “Today is the day our God ordained to stand his authority as the owner and giver of power,” he also said. He added, “Today is that moment when the will of the people ordained by God survived the anti-masses plot of powerful forces. We, therefore celebrate God almighty. We dedicate today’s victory to Him. State power is of God and he bestowed it on whoever he wishes. “I will remain God’s driven, divinely inspired, I will govern with the fear of God. Our governorship is an affirmation that we are for the people, by the people,” he promised. Commending the court and the judges who judged the case in his favor, he said, “Integrity of my lord justice, your affirmation for the truth and people’s will, consolidate and strengthen our democracy. On behalf of the Osun people, we appreciate you and adore your love for justice and equity. Challenge, a call to duty, a fresh demand for more dividends of democracy”. He continued, “I commit myself to more expanded delivery of good governance, in me, you will find a true pro-people governor. I seek the support of all Osun residents and citizens, in respective of party affiliations. This is our state and we must join hands to develop it. “My appreciation goes to my family. My wives, Titi and Ngozi, and children. To all Imole in Nigeria and abroad. Thank you for standing by me. I want to thank my brother and sister. “My people of Osun State, the good job continues, we wrap up the implementation of our five points agenda. We shall focus on grassroots development. We shall embark on the agricultural revival of our dear state. Our policies shall fight poverty, insecurity, unemployment, and underdevelopment. Chairman calls out Gov. Adeleke over rising attacks on APC members in Osun

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State urges Governor Ademola Adeleke to tackle the mounting insecurity in the state.

The party expressed concern about the recent spike in violent attacks, particularly in the lead-up to, during, and after the general elections across the country. Osun State is said to be renowned for being one of the most peaceful states in the country until the 2023 general elections, particularly in the Osun East Senatorial District encompassing the Ife and Ijesa regions. Tajudeen Lawal announced in a statement on Monday, April 3, 2023, that more than 30 members of the opposition APC were reportedly murdered by thugs believed to be backed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Furthermore, the party condemned the kidnaps that transpired on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, and Friday, March 31, on the Osogbo-Ikirun road. Statement on attacks in Osun State reads in part “As of the time of making this statement with the exception of a woman whose release was secured by the police on Sunday, the victims were said to still be in captivity. “A caring governor would have either condemned the two kidnapping incidents in his territory within three days or rushed back from Abuja as the number one security officer of the state. “It is saddening that as I speak, Governor Adeleke has no comment of condemnation to his credit on all the murder incidents that happened so far in his four-month-old administration. “His handling of Osun affairs has shown that governance of a state is not a tea party which is the reason why it is not the best arrangement to make the state a laboratory for greenhorns in the management of the affairs of human beings and resources.”

Ademola Adeleke reinstated governor Osun State

The appellate court sitting in Abuja has upheld Mr Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun State.

Recall that the Osun State tribunal had sacked Adeleke as Governor months after his victory citing such issues as over-voting in 749 polling units in the 10 LG areas of the state. A three-member panel of justices decided in Adeleke’s appeal on Friday, concluding that the election tribunal fell short in finding that Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress had established their claim of over voting. The court of appeal had faulted the tribunal for making a decision which was based on oral witness of alleged over voting as what is usually considered are the information on the BVAs and voter registration. In addition to overturning the tribunal’s decision, the court gave the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate Gboyega Oyetola N500, 000 in costs in its lead judgment, which was delivered by Justice Mohammed Lawal.
