Anticipation builds for the 67th Ballon d’Or ceremony set to hold in Paris on Monday, October 30, with rumours making the rounds that Messi might be set for his eighth title, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. Meanwhile, Osimhen who took the Serie A by storm in the last campaign, has continued to prove how humble he is, conceding he might not be the best candidate to win the Ballon d’Or title this year. I don’t want to say my opinion on it, but they both deserve to win.” When asked about his own prospects of winning the prestigious award, Osimhen offered a glimpse into his ambitions, saying, “Honestly, if one day I can be close to winning it, it will be sensational for me. If I’m able to be competitive at a certain level, that will be great.” While Osimhen is also a nominee for FIFA’s Best Male Player award, he’s keeping an eye on another accolade. He hopes to start from the home front, winning the African Footballer of the Year Award, even though the official shortlist is yet to be unveiled, The continental award is scheduled for December in Morocco.

Court admits suspended CBN governor, Emefiele to N20m bail

Court admits Emefiele to N20m bail

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of a Federal High in Lagos, on Tuesday, admitted the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele to bail in the sum of N20 million. Emefiele is standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on possession of a single barrel shotgun, as well as possession of 123 rounds of live ammunition without licences.

Court admits Emefiele to N20m bail

Suspended CBN governor, Emefiele He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. After his plea, defence counsel, Mr Joseph Daudu, SAN, who led four other senior advocates, informed the court of a bail application filed on behalf of the defendant. Dedence’s counsel told the court that the same had been served on the prosecution, adding that there is a stamp of the office of the Attorney General as proof. But the prosecutor, Mrs N.B Jones, objected to the bail application on the grounds that she had not been served with a copy of the application. She informed the court that her office had been on the lookout for a possible bail application of the defendant but had seen none. She added that since she has just been aware of the application in court, she then requires time to respond by way of affidavit since facts have been deposed. Besides, she noted that since there is no sitting Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) at the moment, the defence could not have effectively served the same. But defence counsel told the court that the prosecutor had no excuse not to proceed today in response of the bail application as the same had been duly served on the prosecution’s office. He argued that the office of the AGF is a creation of statute, and so cannot exist in a vacuum. He urged the court to so hold In a short ruling, the court agreed with the submission of defence counsel and urged him to move the defendant’s bail application. Moving the application, defence counsel urged the court to admit the defendant to bail as he is not a flight risk being, a reputable former Governor of CBN. He told the court that the defendant had been kept in custody for a long and had lost so much weight and so, requires medical attention. Defence also informed the court that the defendant will be available to stand trial, adding that assuming the prosecutor had produced a witness, the defence would have been ready to proceed. He, therefore, urged the court to grant the defendant bail. In response, the prosecutor informed the court that she was opposed to the bail application of the defendant as he was a flight risk She told the court that the defendant had refused to submit his international passport which indicates such flight risk Besides, she also told the court that being a very influential citizen of Nigeria, the defendant could also interfere with the case and evidence intended to be led by the prosecution. She urged the court to refuse bail In his ruling, Justice Oweibo agreed with the submission of the defence counsel on the grounds that the offence for which the defendant is charged is bailable. The court held that bail can only be denied where any of the circumstances set out in section 162 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, is established. The court held that the prosecution has not furnished such circumstances before the court. The court consequently, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20 million with one surety in like sum The court held that the surety must depose to an affidavit of means. and have a landed property. He urged that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the correctional service pending the perfection of bail The court adjourned the case until Nov. 14 for trial In the charge, the prosecutor told the court that the defendant who resides at No 8 Colorado Street in Maitama Abuja, committed the offence on June 15, at No. 3b Iru Close, Ikoyi Lagos. He was alleged to have in his possession a single barrel shot (Jojeff Magnum 8371) without a licence. The defendant was also alleged to have in his possession, 123 rounds of live ammunition cartridges, without licence. The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 4 and 8 of the Firearms Act, Cap F28, Law of the Federation, 2004.

“Don’t blame me for the mixup” ― Mmesoma tells JAMB as she admits scoring 249

"Don't blame me for the mixup" ― Mmesoma tells JAMB as she admits scoring 249

Mmesoma Ejikeme, the embattled Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, candidate, has pleaded with the board not to blame her for the mixup she has in her result while admitting to scoring 249 instead of 362. The 19-year-old Anambra student was featured on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday where she said: “After all said and done, I now saw that I got 249.

The embattled JAMB candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme “I sent them a text message there to know what really happened — the JAMB Support System. If they go to their system, they will see it there.” Mmesoma also faulted JAMB’s three-year ban on her, stressing that it was not her fault. “It’s not my fault that I printed my result like that, and they said that I forged my result. It’s not my fault. So, them banning it is not fair,” she said. Recall that the 19-year-old had claimed to have earned JAMB’s highest score after her UTME result slip showed 362. However, the board also insisted that the Anambra pupil forged her result adding that the board concluded high-level investigations before coming to the conclusion. The spokesperson of JAMB, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday. He said, “In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.” Benjamin again reiterated the board’s earlier position that the UTME result being paraded by Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma was fake saying the candidates’ account was an attempt to re-write the truth. “Consequently, the Board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle”, who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138. It is also instructive to note that the candidate, in her statement, has inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she is parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip showed the actual owner of the said result before she peddled a lie in an attempt to obfuscate the truth. “To witness the unassailable position of the Board regarding this obvious falsehood, the general public is, therefore, urged to endeavour to scan the QR code on the result slip to see its actual owner before it was mutilated. It is to be noted that the QR code encapsulates the UTME result of each candidate, hence, what is on the result sheet is nothing other than the interpretation of the information on this QR code. “Furthermore, the public is also to note that the Board stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME for the simple reason that candidates were falsifying them. Consequently, the Board has been issuing actual UTME RESULT Slips (not notification of results ) since 2022 complete with the photograph of each candidate,” he said.

Klopp admits he is ‘concerned’ about Liverpool after defeat to Bournemouth

GistReel

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp has said that he is concerned by his team’s away form after they suffered their eighth loss of the campaign to Bournemouth on Saturday, March 11. Bournemouth took the lead against the run of play with a 28th-minute opener. January arrival Dango Ouattara raced away from Virgil van Dijk and cut the ball back for Bournemouth top scorer Billing to poke home from close range. With just 20 minutes left in the game, Liverpool was awarded a penalty after referee John Brooks consulted the VAR screen and penalized Adam Smith for handball when he blocked a goal-bound header from substitute Diogo Jota. Mohamed Sallah, however, failed to convert the penalty as he shot the ball well wide of Neto’s right-hand post. The result sees Bournemouth climb off the bottom of the table to 16th, while Liverpool stays fifth ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

Klopp admits he is 'concerned' about Liverpool after defeat to Bournemouth

Speaking to reporters after the match, Klopp said; “I am concerned, yes. I see it. I see it. The home record, we are in the top four if I am right but away games we are not even in the European places. There is always a reason for the situation you are in and the away record is for sure. We could have had more points at home as well, not that we should have but away from home, definitely. “It was a big strength of us in the last few years, we never made a difference between [home and away] but that is what happens when you do the right things consistently in the right way. And with the quality we have, we have a good chance to win away from home as well, just this season not often enough. It’s a clear point to be honest. “Setbacks are setbacks but we are in the position we’re in because of the good performances as well. We didn’t only have setbacks but today was a proper one, no doubt about that. Yes, now we have to deal with it and we will.

Klopp admits he is 'concerned' about Liverpool after defeat to Bournemouth

“One thing we’ve learned this season is to deal with setbacks and we have to make sure we recover properly because we obviously have a big game Wednesday (against Real Madrid), then it is the international break and I hope everyone comes back healthy. Then we have the football week of all football week opponent-wise. “There is a lot to go for but now is not the moment for me to talk about that. It was a massive knock here and how it is with knocks, you have to take them, see how big the scars are and then we take it from there.”
