Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, 5 others listed in UK MOBO award

About eight artists in Nigeria including Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy have been listed in the United Kingdom MOBO Award for 2024. The organizers of the MOBO Award, an annual celebration of musical achievement, have announced that the 26th edition will take place on February 7, 2024. The event will take place at Utilita Arena Sheffield in the United Kingdom, and hundreds of musicians from around the world will attend. The list, which was issued on December 14th, 2023, included eight Nigerian artists.

Grammy nominations Davido, Rema, Burna Boy, Asake, and Adekunle Gold are among the other acts in the same category. As a result, the award now includes additional categories such as the MOBO Lifetime Achievement Award, the Paving The Way Award – MOBO Impact, and the MOBO Pioneer Award. Samuel Onwubiko professionally known as Limoblaze was the only Nigerian singer who made the best gospel act category.

While Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix secured victory in its category, it faced tough competition in other categories such as Top Billboard Collaboration, Top Billboard Excl. U.S. Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song, and Top Radio Song, where it did not emerge victorious. On the broader winners’ list, American singer Morgan Wallen led with an impressive 11 awards, closely followed by Taylor Swift, who secured 10 wins.

In an earlier post by St Paul’s Academy, it was revealed that Chioma achieved a rare feat by scoring A1 in all the subjects she undertook during the 2022 WASSCE examination. This outstanding accomplishment places her among the elite group of students who have demonstrated exceptional proficiency across multiple disciplines.

The event was attended by film practitioners like Kunle Afolayan, Segun Arinze, Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, Kate Henshaw, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe and AFRIFF founder Chioma Ude. The filmmaker’s movie, Funmilayo: The Lioness of Lisabi, won the best screenplay and best feature film and she dedicated her win to the family of the late activist, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.

A Nigerian man has registered his disappointment over what his school gave him after he emerged as the overall best-graduating student. The man known as Olawale finished his studies at the Air Force Institute of Technology in the 2021/2022 academic year and achieved a 4.99/5.0 CGPA, however, he was only given two plaques for the accomplishment.

The school had celebrated him by sharing a jersey the school had made which carried his CGPA on it.
