Canada-based Nigerian lawyer, Ayokunle Odekunle loses battle to cancer

Social media users mourn as a renowned Nigerian lawyer based in Canada, Ayokunle Odekunle loses life after succumbing to stage 4 cancer. The news of the lawyer’s passing was announced on the microblogging platform, X, where he was notable for his professional tips.

Announcing his demise on Saturday, one X user, @KayceeMaduYEG, tweeted, “It is with profound sadness that I bring to you that our dear brother, friend, and colleague Ayokunle Odekunle, @oddy4real, lost his courageous battle with stage 4 cancer.” According to reports, Odekunle served as a solicitor and barrister at Queck & Associates Law Office in Alberta, Canada. He was a graduate of the University of Ibadan in Oyo State in 2011 with a law degree, Odekunle was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2012. In 2023, he received a call to the Alberta Bar. Having worked at Nigeria’s leading commercial litigation firm, Kenna Partners, Odekunle gained a reputation as a successful litigator, representing multiple global corporations in high-profile lawsuits in Nigeria, all of which he won. Ayokunle’s legal practice focused on various areas, including family law, immigration, wills and estates, and general litigation. Odekunle is survived by his spouse and children.

A medical doctor, Donald Aniekwe with Twitter handle @draizident, found himself deeply moved after reading a letter from a terminally ill patient who ultimately succumbed to cancer.
The patient’s letter, entrusted to her sister, expressed profound gratitude for Dr. Aniekwe’s unwavering support and compassionate care throughout her challenging battle with cancer.
Despite being reassigned to another unit, Dr. Aniekwe consistently went above and beyond to check up on his patient regularly, providing comfort and reassurance during her most difficult moments.

The patient, identified as Sister Grace, acknowledged Dr. Aniekwe’s efforts in the heartfelt letter, noting that his visits, even when he was assigned elsewhere, made a significant difference in her life.
The letter, addressed to Dr. Aniekwe, conveyed Sister Grace’s immense appreciation for the doctor’s presence and care.
She credited Dr. Aniekwe with alleviating her depression and providing strength through his compassionate approach, even when delivering difficult news about the severity of her condition.
She wrote;
“Dear Dr. Aniekwe, I want to thank you for being there for me. Even when they put you in another unit, you still came to check up on me. You are a good doctor and I pray for you every time. That God will bless your kind heart.
“You have made me not to be depressed anymore with my cancer. I have been feeling depressed since my cancer started but you made it better, even when you told me my cancer was bad, and I may not make it, I still felt better the way you told me.
“I pray God will bless you in your career, your health and your finances. And give you a good wife. Amen. Sister Grace madam Teacher, Your friend and patient.”

According to him, the cancer patient wrote the letter and instructed her sister to hand it to the medical professional who was kind to her during her health challenges. In the note, she appreciated the doctor for his kind words, and how he helped her fight through the depression of battling a life-threatening disease. “I lost a patient recently, she gave her sister this letter to give me before she passed. This profession, this profession! This life! 💔😭,” he captioned the letter. The letter reads in part, “I want to thank you for being there for me. One of the most remarkable aspects of Bekele’s soap is its affordability. The cost of producing each bar of this cancer-fighting soap is a mere $0.50 (approximately N382.33), a stark contrast to the exorbitant expenses associated with current medical treatments, which can soar to over $40,000 (approximately N35 million).

“Her relative is battling cancer” – Iyanya reveals why he went on date with lady from Davido’s concert

Nigerian musician, Iyanya has clarified that he has no intention of taking the young lady he was linked with after Davido’s Timeless concert away from her boyfriend. It can be recalled that Iyanya went on a lunch date and boat cruise with Florence, a lady who was admiring him during his performance at the concert.

However, he received negative comments from social media users who criticized him for not considering how Florence’s boyfriend would feel seeing them together. On Tuesday, May 2nd, Iyanya decided to set the record straight and explain why he went on the date with Florence.

He revealed in a Twitter thread that Florence was depressed because one of her close relatives was battling cancer, and he only wanted to put a smile on her face.

He shared photos and emphasized that he only met her on the boat, and there was no ulterior motive. He explained how he sighted Florence at Davido‘s Timeless concert, and after tweeting about her beautiful smile, she reached out to him. When he learned about her situation, he felt that it would be nice to give her a treat in Lagos. Therefore, he had his team contact her and make plans for her to come to Lagos so he could help make her happy. He said;

Actress Gbemi Anjola dies following battle with cancer

33-year-old Nollywood rising actress, Gbemi Anjola has thrown the movie industry into a state of mourning following her untimely death. Gbemi had been battling ovarian cancer since 2021 and had undergone six months of chemotherapy in Dubai, UAE and after she returned to Nigeria following the declaration of being cancer-free. Unfortunately, on March 24, 2023, she was rushed to the hospital after experiencing memory loss and a headache; tragically, she died.

The colleagues of Gbemi Anjola, the likes of Itele and Zainab Balogun shared the news of her demise on their Instagram pages. Nollywood stars such as Nkechi Blessing, Kunle Afod, Biodun Okeowo, and others expressed their condolences in the comments section.
