Enzo Fernandez’s father, Raul has revealed that his son will be asking Chelsea’s new coach, Maurico Pochettino for a role change at Stamford Bridge. Raul Fernandez who spoke to The Chelsea Spot said; “Enzo is comfortable, happy, and adjusting to London. He was happy about the arrival of Pochettino. Next season? My son wants to be a champion. “I think [we will see Enzo play further forward]. He was going to ask [Pochettino] to play further advanced.” The Argentine who helped his country to World Cup glory at Qatar 2022, became the most expensive player in British football after joining the Blues for £106 million ($137m) in January. Chelsea are reported to be in the market for another holding option, as France international N’Golo Kante prepares to depart as a free agent. Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo continues to be strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are seemingly favourites to land the Brighton star as Arsenal focus their efforts on completing a deal for Declan Rice. Talks are now at an advanced stage with Brighton as the two clubs look to agree a fee with personal terms already agreed.
Arsenal are working on signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea
Arsenal has reportedly contacted their London-rival Chelsea about the possibility of signing forward Kai Havertz. Real Madrid are also interested in the forward, with Chelsea ready to sell as they look set to offload up to ten players this summer. The Blues are reportedly willing to consider offers in the region of £70 million for the 24-year-old, whose contract expires in June 2025.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad considerably this summer as Mikel Arteta seeks to form a squad capable of competing in both the Premier League and Champions League. Havertz is viewed as a player who could help with this, but his price tag could be an issue. Havertz has often been deployed as a striker in his time with Chelsea, with the role yet to yield the goal tally expected of a top-class centre forward. His first 91 Premier League games have seen just 19 goals. Havertz has shown his finishing ability, with his finish in the Champions League final of 2021 winning the trophy for Chelsea against Man City. He has also been entrusted with the role for his country, Germany, with the hope being that he can flourish into becoming a prolific goalscorer.

Mauricio Pochettino named next Chelsea head coach
Chelsea on Monday, May 29, announced that Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the club’s new manager. Pochettino had emerged as the favourite after Chelsea held talks with former Spain manager Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked by Bayern Munich in March. Pochettino will take up the role on July 1, after agreeing to a two-year contract, with the club having the option of keeping him on for another year. Chelsea’s sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said in a statement; “Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea well as we move forward. He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.” Chelsea players at a match in Stamford Bridge. The Argentine is the permanent successor to Graham Potter, who was fired in March after nearly seven months in charge. Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has led the team on an interim basis since then and they finished the Premier League in 12th place, the bottom of the Premier League for the first time since the 1995-96 season. They also lost to Manchester City in the FA Cup and League Cup and made a limp Champions League quarter-final exit against Real Madrid. Believed to be keen to sign a new goalkeeper, central midfielder, and striker, Pochettino has a big job on his hands. This is despite a haphazard £550 million ($679 million) spending spree on new signings which the club’s co-owner, Todd Boehly embarked on earlier this year.

Manchester United secure Champions League place after defeating Chelsea
Manchester United has been able to book a place in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League after a 4-1 victory over Chelsea at OId Trafford on Thursday, May 25. Erik ten Hag’s men needed just a point to confirm a top-four finish and Casemiro settled any early nerves with a free header on six minutes to net his fourth league goal of the campaign. Chelsea are 12th on the Premier League table and they’ve set a new club record with a 16th defeat in a 38-game Premier League season to compound finishing in the bottom half of the top-flight for the first time in 27 years. Manchester United will end the league season at home to Fulham on Sunday afternoon while Chelsea hosts Newcastle United.
Manchester City assert Premier League title win with victory over Chelsea
Manchester City kicked off their Premier League title celebrations with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad. Recall that Pep Guardiola’s men clinched a fifth title in six seasons on Saturday, May 20, when second-placed Arsenal were defeated 1-0 by Nottingham Forest. Following the title win, Guardiola made nine changes from the side that battered Real Madrid on Wednesday, May 17. Haaland, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, John Stones, Jack Grealish, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, and goalkeeper Ederson were all benched. Erling Haaland was rested but Julian Alvarez provided the cutting edge in his absence with a clinical finish to put City ahead after 12 minutes. Kalvin Phillips who made his first Premier League start for City since joining in a £55m deal from Leeds United last summer, came close to doubling City’s lead on the hour mark but he was denied by the post after meeting Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick. Alvarez thought he had his brace in the 73rd minute but the goal was disallowed after Mahrez was adjudged to have used a hand in the build-up. The defeat means Chelsea will end a miserable campaign in the bottom half and a familiar lack of cutting edge in front of goal showed why the Blues have struggled under three different managers this season. With finals against Manchester United and Inter Milan to come in the FA Cup and Champions League respectively, City have to keep their focus if they’re to pull off a historic treble. Victor Osimhen allegedly left Chelsea scouts ‘unimpressed’ after Napoli’s lose to Monza
An Italian publication has alleged that Chelsea scouts who were present during Napoli’s match against Monza on Sunday, May 14, were left “unimpressed” with Nigerian superstar, Victor Osimhen’s performance. The newly crowned Serie A champions were defeated 2-0 by Monza during the match. While it was alleged that Osimhen performed underwhelmingly during the match, he has been a revelation for Napoli this season and handed them their first Serie A title in 33 years with his goal against Udinese. He is wanted by some top clubs in Europe. In a report shared on Monday, May 15, Il Mattino reported that Chelsea might take a step back from the race to sign the Nigerian forward in the summer. Mauricio Pochettino is set to take over this week as the new Chelsea manager and it’s highly unlikely he will have any reservations about the club moving for Osimhen when the window opens despite the scouts’ decision. Manchester United are deemed to be the frontrunners to land the player. It’s been reported earlier that the Red Devils were in touch with Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis over a possible Osimhen transfer, but a deal did not materialize. Any other move they make will be reliant on whether the club’s takeover is completed in time. Asides from Chelsea and Manchester United, Newcastle, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid are also keen on signing the Nigerian superstar.
Chelsea record first win since Lampard took over from Potter
Late goals from Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix earned Chelsea and Frank Lampard a hard-fought 3-1 win over Bournemouth today, May 5. Despite Conor Gallagher’s early opening goal, it was not at all easy for the Blues as Bournemouth pulled level through a spectacular Matias Vina strike. The game was evenly poised heading into the final 10 minutes until substitutes Hakim Ziyech, Raheem Sterling, and Felix made the difference to give Lampard his first win in seven games since returning to Chelsea as an interim coach following the sack of Graham Potter last month. Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix scored for Chelsea in the last 10 minutes, pushing the London club to 42 points on the Premier League table. O’Neil’s Bournemouth will travel to Crystal Palace next, while Chelsea will host Nottingham Forest.
Klopp reveals he’s enjoying watching Chelsea struggle with their top players
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp has said that watching Chelsea struggle this season despite their huge spending in the transfer market, has brought him so much joy. Chelsea is currently having one of their worst Premier League campaigns, sitting 12th on the table and 10 points clear of the relegation zone even after signing 16 players. Commenting on what has played out, Klopp told Sky Sports; “I feel a little bit for Chelsea to be honest, because it’s not going well, I think they’re a top, top team, but on the other side it’s good to see that you cannot just bring top players together and think it works out. You have to build a team and that’s what the guys there underestimated and gave their coaches a nearly impossible job to do. “You cannot have two dressing rooms, you cannot train on two pitches, you have to create relationships, you have to create team spirit, and that journey is why I’m a little bit happy about it. Chelsea will be fine in the end and they will be incredibly strong next year, but I’m using them just as an example. At the highest level, no, we cannot do it like that. And that’s what we will not do. You have to bring in the right players and build a new team. This team wrote a sensational story and now we start a new one, that’s it.”
Chelsea players are ‘angry and disappointed’
Chelsea star, Raheem Sterling has said that he and his teammates are disappointed with their abysmal performance this season. Sterling who joined the Blues from Manchester City last summer for a fee in the region of £47.5 million ($59.7m), shared his teammates’ frustration during an interview with The Sun. He further stated while he enjoyed his time at his previous club and won a lot of trophies, he is seeking to solve the new challenge at Chelsea. Sterling said; “We are disappointed when we come off the pitch and feel angry and disappointed. There are times when we finish a game you just sit in the changing room looking into space because you can’t understand what has just happened. It’s tough to take. You are always trying to look for a positive solution. There will be conversations, players trying to come to terms with what has happened in the last ten minutes or so. It’s not easy. “We need to look in the right direction and look to whoever comes in as the next manager to build for the future. I enjoyed my time at my previous club and won a lot of trophies. But I like a new challenge and this is the challenge I signed up for. It will taste even sweeter to win silverware coming from a moment like this than if you were winning every single week. The ability in the dressing room is undeniable and if we have someone who can take control of that we are more than capable of challenging every year.” Chelsea currently sits 12th on the EPL table in what has been described as their worst-ever Premier League campaign.
