An admission seeker identified as Sodiq Oladebo has accused members of the Nigeria Police Force of extorting N20,000 from him and other passengers. The incident took place on Saturday when Oladebo and fellow travelers were en route from Osun to Benin, Edo State. According to Oladebo, their vehicle was stopped at a checkpoint, and police officers proceeded to search their bags. Despite finding nothing incriminating, the officers allegedly resorted to intimidation tactics, demanding a payment of N100,000 or threatening to take Oladebo to the police station. Distressed by the situation, Oladebo explained that the N99,000 he had in his Palm Pay application was meant to purchase an Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) form required for his university admission. Following a heated exchange with the police officers, a compromise was reached, and they settled for N20,000 from Oladebo. The amount was immediately transferred to a Point-of-Sale operator named Delight Enterprise, as corroborated by a screenshot of the receipt bearing the transaction time of 11:34 am on Saturday. Expressing his frustration, Oladebo revealed that the police officers responsible for the incident were four in number and were traveling in a black Hilux van. Regrettably, his money is still in their possession despite the transaction. In his words; We left Old Garage Park in Osun State, and were going to Benin, Edo State. Our vehicle was stopped by the policemen. They checked the passenger at the front and later asked me to come down from the vehicle to identify my luggage. “They searched and didn’t find anything incriminating. He took my phone from me, unlocked it but didn’t find anything incriminating on it. He returned my phone and said he would take me to the station except I pay N100,000. Former Afrobeats singer-turned-evangelist, Kasbeats has disclosed that tithes and offerings are not part of his calling. Kasbeats opened up on his calling in a recent interview. The singer who came to the limelight with the hit song ‘Fimile’ years back, said he doesn’t take tithes and offerings after preaching because after being called by God, he wasn’t told to take money from people.

He said; “I have always been into ministry, I have been preaching since I was six, seven years old. I have been preaching for a very long time.As a young preacher and church boy, I am also a musician. “Obviously, my music made me popular. My name is Kas but I was given the ‘Beats’ part of it in the church. My choir mistress back then named me Kas Beats because of the way I play the drums in church. I have always been into ministry. The music part of it is just a gift that God gave me.

“Honestly there was no particular experience, I always knew I would be into ministry, there was no sign, nothing, I just always knew. Whenever I hang out with my friends, fellow musicians, 2face, D’Banj, Wande, whenever I hang out with them, and they see me in the club they say ‘this guy is different’. “Whenever I preach, I don’t collect tithes and offerings. When God called me, He did not tell me to take money from people. There is a way God provides me with money, so I do more crusades and seminars. CBN instructs banks to collect old N500, N1,000 notes

Banks have been instructed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to accept the old N500 and N1,000 notes from their customers who have obtained a reference code generated from the CBN website.

According to sources from multiple banks, their branches were recently instructed by the head office to comply with this directive. A top CBN official confirmed the directive: “Yes we have directed them to collect the old N500 and N1,000 from customers, subject to maximum of N500,000.” It is recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari directed that the old N500 and N1,000 notes are no longer considered legal tender, and individuals in possession of these notes should take them to the CBN. In response, the CBN established a portal for individuals to register how much they wish to deposit and receive a reference code to confirm their registration. This reference code can then be used to deposit the old notes at any CBN office throughout the country. However, investigations suggest that due to the high number of people visiting CBN offices to deposit their old N500 and N1,000 notes, the CBN have authorized banks to collect these notes from their customers. A bank official and branch head informed Vanguard that their branch did not open to customers today due to safety concerns, but they plan to begin collecting old notes from customers tomorrow (Saturday).
