Klopp admits he is ‘concerned’ about Liverpool after defeat to Bournemouth

GistReel

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp has said that he is concerned by his team’s away form after they suffered their eighth loss of the campaign to Bournemouth on Saturday, March 11. Bournemouth took the lead against the run of play with a 28th-minute opener. January arrival Dango Ouattara raced away from Virgil van Dijk and cut the ball back for Bournemouth top scorer Billing to poke home from close range. With just 20 minutes left in the game, Liverpool was awarded a penalty after referee John Brooks consulted the VAR screen and penalized Adam Smith for handball when he blocked a goal-bound header from substitute Diogo Jota. Mohamed Sallah, however, failed to convert the penalty as he shot the ball well wide of Neto’s right-hand post. The result sees Bournemouth climb off the bottom of the table to 16th, while Liverpool stays fifth ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

Klopp admits he is 'concerned' about Liverpool after defeat to Bournemouth

Speaking to reporters after the match, Klopp said; “I am concerned, yes. I see it. I see it. The home record, we are in the top four if I am right but away games we are not even in the European places. There is always a reason for the situation you are in and the away record is for sure. We could have had more points at home as well, not that we should have but away from home, definitely. “It was a big strength of us in the last few years, we never made a difference between [home and away] but that is what happens when you do the right things consistently in the right way. And with the quality we have, we have a good chance to win away from home as well, just this season not often enough. It’s a clear point to be honest. “Setbacks are setbacks but we are in the position we’re in because of the good performances as well. We didn’t only have setbacks but today was a proper one, no doubt about that. Yes, now we have to deal with it and we will.

Klopp admits he is 'concerned' about Liverpool after defeat to Bournemouth

“One thing we’ve learned this season is to deal with setbacks and we have to make sure we recover properly because we obviously have a big game Wednesday (against Real Madrid), then it is the international break and I hope everyone comes back healthy. Then we have the football week of all football week opponent-wise. “There is a lot to go for but now is not the moment for me to talk about that. It was a massive knock here and how it is with knocks, you have to take them, see how big the scars are and then we take it from there.”

How will I not be concerned?

Liverpool coach, Jurgen Klopp has reacted to his team’s 3-0 defeat to Wolves at the Molineux stadium today, February 4. How will I not be concerned - Klopp speaks after Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Wolves Wolves took a surprise two-goal lead just 12 minutes into their Premier League clash.  A long ball over the top found Hwang Hee-chan in the Liverpool box and the South Korean star took the ball down to the byline before trying to cut back to a team-mate in the centre. However, the pass struck Joel Matip and bounced off his trailing leg past Alisson from close range to break the deadlock just five minutes in. Craig Dawson who was also making his first appearance for Wolves since joining from West Ham, pounced on a loose ball after a headed effort by Max Kilman was blocked from close range by Matip. The centre-back then blasted the ball through the bodies in the way to double the lead. In the second-half, Ruben Neves went on to make it 3-0 to the home team when Adama Traore’s excellent pass found him in the penalty area, setting him up for a fine finish. Following the defeat, Klopp was forced to listen to home fans singing “you’re getting sacked in the morning”. When asked by reporters in a post-match press conference whether he still has confidence in his ability to turn things around at Anfield, he responded by saying “Yeah, yeah. Absolutely.” Klopp who also stated that the defeat has left him concerned, added that he’s sick of offering excuses for his team’s poor performances. He said; “The start of the game was horrible, it is not allowed to happen. How will I not be concerned - Klopp speaks after Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Wolves “There is the first 12 minutes, then it is OK for an away performance, where we created, we were there. We started extremely well in the second half, the first 20 to 25 minutes, it is a super away game without scoring. Then they score the third goal from a counter-attack. “We caused our own misery in that first 12 minutes. That cannot happen. It did. But it cannot. It is really tough to swallow. You can criticise, you can judge and you are probably right. I have nothing to say because these 12 minutes are not allowed. “It is really difficult to summarise. The team is not full of confidence, but do you need a lot of confidence for that? To put your body between the ball and opponent? Stop the cross? “How can I not be concerned? I cannot sit here and say it is ok because it is not. I got asked if it is because of last season, 63 games. It is clear that has influenced the start of the season but how long can we suffer that? It is February by my watch. How will I not be concerned - Klopp speaks after Liverpool's 3-0 defeat to Wolves “It might have been a problem but today, the first 12 minutes, it is not allowed and this is outcome. This is not a 3-0 how a 3-0 looks with Wolves clearly better side. Maybe for 12 minutes and the end when the ball was their friend again.” Klopp also averred he has not lost belief in himself as a coach or the players who have brought him such success at Liverpool but are now falling short of their best form. He added; “I don’t think they are at their best at the moment but I still know how good they are and how good they can be. But we cannot help ourselves in this moment. “Seven or eight players weren’t involved in the first goal, seven or eight players weren’t involved in the second goal, but all are affected by it. The start is horrible. Then it is normal, it is great. OK, no finishing. But at the moment it is always if if if and I can’t hear it anymore.”
