Former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Ike Ekweremadu, has been sentenced to nine years and eight months imprisonment for plotting to harvest a man’s kidney, along with his wife, Beatrice, who was sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment. A medical doctor, Dr Obinna Obeta, was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. They were found guilty of conspiring to arrange the travel of a young man with the intention of exploiting him for his body part. In a letter addressed to the court, the victim revealed his shock upon discovering the reason for the trip was to harvest his organs to give to Ekweremadu’s daughter, Sonia. He said he was approached with an opportunity to work in the UK, something he had “always dreamed of but never thought would happen.” The victim said he was lured to the United Kingdom under the pretense of job opportunity in the country. He added that he could not return to Nigeria because he worries for his safety. The victim claimed someone visited his father in Nigeria and asked him to get the victim, his son, to drop the case. “He [Dr Obinna Obeta] did not tell me he brought me here for this reason, he did not tell me anything about this. I would have not agreed to any of this, my body is not for sale,” the victim said. He told the police he did not want to claim compensation from the “bad people” as it would be “cursed and bad luck”. The victim also revealed his humble background in a Lagos village where he is the oldest of seven siblings living in a home without electricity or running water. He was forced to become a street trader full time, moving to the city to provide for his family when his father fell ill with a heart problem. He sold mobile phone accessories from a wheelbarrow making at most £7 a day and as little as 50p. The victim’s impact statement was read in court on Friday. He claimed his body parts were “not for sale”, and he would not have agreed to the trip if he had known the true reason for it. The victim’s safety concerns remain, as he fears for his life if he were to return to Nigeria.

According to the reality star, loyalty does not equate to faithfulness as perceived by many. In her words; “My partner can love me but still cheat on me. But I don’t think that because he has cheated, he doesn’t love me. For me, my definition of loyalty is not, don’t cheat me. “I’m just trying to be realistic in my relationship. For me, I will say I want a partner that he will tell me, babe, I’m travelling for six months, I can not promise you that I will be loyal for six months.”
Her guests on the podcast, Beauty Tukura and Modella, however, had a different view, stating that loyalty and faithfulness are important in a relationship and that it should be a one-man, one-woman affair.
I don’t collect tithes and offerings after preaching
Former Afrobeats singer-turned-evangelist, Kasbeats has disclosed that tithes and offerings are not part of his calling. Kasbeats opened up on his calling in a recent interview. The singer who came to the limelight with the hit song ‘Fimile’ years back, said he doesn’t take tithes and offerings after preaching because after being called by God, he wasn’t told to take money from people.
He said; “I have always been into ministry, I have been preaching since I was six, seven years old. I have been preaching for a very long time.As a young preacher and church boy, I am also a musician. “Obviously, my music made me popular. My name is Kas but I was given the ‘Beats’ part of it in the church. My choir mistress back then named me Kas Beats because of the way I play the drums in church. I have always been into ministry. The music part of it is just a gift that God gave me.
“Honestly there was no particular experience, I always knew I would be into ministry, there was no sign, nothing, I just always knew. Whenever I hang out with my friends, fellow musicians, 2face, D’Banj, Wande, whenever I hang out with them, and they see me in the club they say ‘this guy is different’. “Whenever I preach, I don’t collect tithes and offerings. When God called me, He did not tell me to take money from people. There is a way God provides me with money, so I do more crusades and seminars. Any time I organise crusades and seminars, I actually give people food and other items, instead of collecting money from them.”

I don’t recognise my club
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has taken a swipe at the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly over some of the decisions he has taken since acquiring the club from Roman Abramovich. Drogba who spoke to Canal+ believes that Boehly focused too much on young players while building a bloated squad. He also believes Chelsea has fundamentally changed for the worse under Boehly. The Ivorian football star added that the Blues “lack charismatic leaders” who can handle difficult stretches and guide team-mates in the right direction. He said; “I don’t recognise my club. It’s no longer the same club. There is a new owner and a new vision. Of course, we try to compare it with what happened during the [Roman] Abramovich era where a lot of players were brought in, but the decisions were very intelligent. “Bringing in players like Petr Cech, Andriy Shevchenko, Herman Crespo, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, and I go on. It was done to win titles. They are players with a certain experience. The strategy is now different; we bet on young players. But a dressing room of over 30 players is difficult [to manage] for a manager. “You need players that take on the game, that assume their responsibilities. You need a player that brings a bit of madness to the stadium.”
