Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland is set for disappointment as Norway’s hopes for Euro 2024 qualification were dashed on Saturday. Norway’s fate for a possible playoff was cut by Israel’s 2-1 defeat to Romania, even when they are yet to face Scotland on Sunday. Despite Norway having a chance to secure a playoff spot if Israel had won, Romania’s victory in Group I cemented their direct qualification for Euro 2024. The outcome means Israel will join Bosnia in the Path B playoffs, leaving Haaland’s Norway on the sidelines. In an earlier interview, Haaland said, “Unfortunately, I am missing tomorrow’s (Sunday) game against Scotland. Wishing the boys all the best. Now treatment and trying to get back asap.” But Norway’s coach Stale Solbakken, has clarified that Haaland’s injury is not a severe one, but acknowledged it might take a while for him to return to the pitch.
How Chiesa rescued Jorginho’s penalty miss to give Italy win in Euro 2024 qualifier
Federico Chiesa came to the rescue of Jorginho during Italy’s Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia. Chiesa scored a stunning goal just 71 seconds after the midfielder missed yet another penalty for his national team. Jorginho who is now plagued by penalty struggles, faced North Macedonia’s goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski, who expertly denied the Arsenal midfielder’s attempt. The miss marked Jorginho’s second consecutive penalty woes, having previously missed against Switzerland in the 2022 World Cup qualification.

Chiesa seized the opportunity, smashing home a remarkable goal from the edge of the box, securing Italy’s two-goal lead. Matteo Darmian and Chiesa, again, had earlier given Italy the advantage in the first half. Despite a comeback attempt by North Macedonia’s Jani Atanasov with a brace, Italy maintained control. Late goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Stephan El Shaarawy secured a convincing 5-2 victory. The defeat dashed North Macedonia’s hopes of automatic qualification for Euro 2024. Italy, on the other hand, now sits in a favourable position ahead of their decisive final qualifier against Ukraine. With both teams tied at 13 points, Italy’s superior head-to-head record gives them an edge. A draw in their upcoming match will secure Italy’s qualification, making it a winner-takes-all showdown in Leverkusen. However, the question now arises whether Jorginho will be entrusted with future penalties after his recent struggles.
England wins Euro U21 Championship title
England won their first Euro U21 Championship title in almost four decades by beating Spain 1-0 in the final played last night. The Young Lions lifted their first title since 1984 after winning the tournament without conceding a single goal. England celebrates winning the Euro U21 title. The only goal of the game came in very scrappy circumstances at the very end of the first half. In the 49th minute, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was credited with turning in a free-kick that had been floated into the box. Seven yellow cards were handed out, and England coaching staff member Ashley Cole was sent off after England scored following a brawl that broke out on the side of the pitch. There were opportunities for Spain to get back into the game, with Abel Ruiz looking like a real danger at many opportunities. The likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Gordon were very important for England throughout the match.

However, James Trafford, who is set to join Burnley from Manchester City in a deal that could be worth up to £19m, kept out Abel Ruiz’s low spot-kick in the 99th minute. The 20-year-old then produced another brilliant stop on the follow-up before being mobbed by his team-mates. The win meant Lee Carsley’s talented side are the third England team to win a Euro U21 Championship title. They picked up the trophy in 1982 and 1984. They are also the first team to record six successive clean sheets in the tournament’s history.
Ronaldo lifted up by pitch invader during Euro qualifiers match

Source: Getty The talking point of the match came when a pitch invader breached security by charging towards Ronaldo who he bowed to. The Al-Nassr star smiled and embraced the man who carried Portugal’s flag. The pitch invader then crouched down on his haunches while wrapping his arms around Ronaldo’s waist and lifting him up. Despite the security breach, Ronaldo seemed to smile after his feet were back on the turf and even did his iconic “siu” goal celebration with the fan. The dramatic incident is coming weeks after Ronaldo was nearly taken out by an overzealous pitch invader while warming up before playing for Al-Nassr against Al-Tawoun during the latter stages of the Saudi Pro League season. The former Manchester United ace was going through the motions alongside his teammates when he was approached by the fan, who took a tumble as he attempted to get close to his idol near the touchline and narrowly avoided swiping Ronaldo’s legs from underneath him. Scotland stun Spain as McTominay’s double delivers epic Euro 2024 qualifying result
Scott McTominay scored twice as Scotland claimed a famous 2-0 victory over Spain at Hampden Park in Euro 2024 qualifying on Tuesday, March 28.
McTominay was handed a start after his super sub appearance against Cyprus on Saturday, March 25, when he scored twice in the last six minutes of play to give the Scots a 3-0 win. The Steve Clarke-led team started like a side hungry for a statement victory and they were ahead after seven minutes. Andy Robertson’s pressure forced Spurs’ Pedro Porro into a slip and the skipper needed no second invite to nick the ball and cut back perfectly for McTominay to side-foot home past Kepa from 10 yards. McTominay got his second goal just seven minutes into the game. He had Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney to thank for it. The Arsenal defender nabbed the ball ten yards in his half and put on the burners, racing up the wing past two Spanish markers. His cross to the six-yard box was only half cleared by David Garcia and McTominay sprinted onto the loose ball and smashed it home. It was Scotland’s first win against the Spaniards since 1984 when Jock Stein’s side won 3-1 and probably their best result since beating France in 2007. To put the win into context, Spain has suffered only one defeat in their last 38 Euro qualifiers and only two defeats in World Cup qualifiers since 2006.
