FRANK OCEAN’S BLONDE ALBUM
Frank Ocean spent two years teasing fans with his album release. Eventually in August, he dropped both Blonde and the visual album Endless. Both were critically acclaimed and would have been good contenders for the next Grammy Awards in February 2017.
However, Billboard is reporting that neither would be eligible for the Grammy because neither Frank Ocean’s management nor label submitted either for consideration.
It’s not clear now if this is deliberate (which is unlikely) or it is an amateurish oversight for one of the world’s most acclaimed artistes. The singer’s departure from Def Jam could have led to some confusion. Endless was Ocean’s final release through Def Jam. Ocean put out Blonde on his Boys Don’t Cry imprint, through Apple Music.
Frank Ocean’s first album Channel Orange won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2013.
