A convoy conveying staff of the US consulate was attacked by gunmen along Atani, Osamale Road in Anambra State on Tuesday, May 16. Ikenga Tochukwu, the police spokesperson in Anambra said the gunmen killed four persons on the convoy including two US Consulate staff.

He said; “Hoodlums murdered two of the PMF operatives, and two staff of the consulate. Bodies of the victims were also set ablaze by the gunmen.  “Security forces have embarked on a rescue/recovery operation in Ogbaru LGA, following an attack on a convoy of staff of US consulate today 16/5/2023 by 3:30 pm along Atani, Osamale road. The hoodlums murdered two of the PMF operatives, and two staff of the consulate, and set their bodies ablaze and their vehicles. “Also, the arsonist/murderers on sighting the responding joint security forces abducted two police operatives, the driver of the second vehicle and took to their heels. No US citizen was in the convoy.

“The command, while reacting to the incident, regrets that a convoy of such or any related will enter the state without recourse to the police in the area or any security agency, assured that the battle against the insurgents in the state is focused and it will remain sustained until such a time security stability is fully restored”. The US mission in Nigeria also confirmed the incident, noting that the security of their personnel is paramount. A spokesperson of the US mission said; “We confirm there was an incident on May 16 in Anambra state.  U.S. Mission Nigeria personnel are working with Nigerian security services to investigate.  The security of our personnel is always paramount, and we take extensive precautions when organising trips to the field.  We have no further comment at this time.”

The 29, which comprised men, housewives, and children, were abducted in the middle of Tuesday night from Yewuti village; the hometown of the immediate past vice chairman of Kwali Area Council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti.

According to Daily Trust, two housewives, Mrs. Zainab Umar, and Mrs. Aisha Zubairu, escaped from their abductors while being led into the bush. he gunmen reportedly raided eight houses and whisked away the residents into the bush. The report added that those kidnapped include Idris Mohammed, Abdullahi Zubairu, Sani S. Magani, Peter Modu, Ibrahim Mamman, Yellow Abdulrasheed, Musa Suleiman, Simbiya Ishaku, Sumaiya Ibrahim, Muktari Yunusa and Mohammed Yeluwa and Rahmat Shagari. Others are Sumaiya Abubakar Yelwa, Mohammed Yelwa, Maimuna Muhammad, Hussaini Ya Nda Agyana, Hamza Ibrahim, Lantana Yunusa, Nabila Agyana, Rufai Salihu, Nafisa Aminu, Kasimu Adamu, Abako Adamu, Abdulyakin Aliyu, Lukman Aliyu, Rahina Audu, Abdulrazak Usman, Sadiya Usman, Darius Samuel and Japheth Osu. It added that the immediate vice chairman of the council, Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin Yewuti, confirmed the incident, claiming that his younger brother, Idris; two of his elder brothers’ wives, and a child were among the victims.

On Saturday night, the attackers invaded and destroyed several homes while causing damage to properties worth millions of naira. The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the incident but did not disclose the exact number of casualties. According to a source, the perpetrators, who are believed to be Fulani militia, opened fire randomly and killed at least twenty villagers, causing panic and forcing residents to flee for their lives. However, the military’s timely intervention helped to contain the situation. In response to the latest killings in Southern Kaduna, the Commissioner revealed that the military had informed the state government of the significant loss of lives. In a statement released to newsmen on Sunday, titled “Several lives lost in Runji village of Zangon Kataf LGA… El-Rufai condemns killings,” he reported that the attack resulted in numerous fatalities and many residents sustaining injuries. Additionally, according to the preliminary report submitted to the state government, an unspecified number of houses were burned. Commissioner’s Statement on Attack in Southern Kaduna “The military has informed the Kaduna State Government of an attack in Runji village, Zangon Kataf LGA, in which several lives were lost on Saturday night. “The preliminary report further informed the government that the attack also left some residents injured and an unspecified number of houses burnt down in the community. “According to the report, troops had a fierce encounter with the attackers and are still in the general area. “While waiting for a detailed report, Governor Nasir El-Rufai who received the preliminary report in the early hours of Sunday has condemned the killings as unacceptable and unjustifiable. “The Governor condoled the families that lost their loved ones and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. “The Kaduna State Government will update the public on the incident as soon as detailed reports are received from the security agencies.”

The images depict him before and after he was allegedly kidnapped and held captive for a period of three months. It was reported that Maisaje was taken by gunmen in the Dansadau area of Maru local government in Zamfara state, in January 2023. He was finally released on Friday, April 7, 2023.

About three persons have been killed by some unknown gunmen after they stormed Gowon Estate, Ipaja area of Lagos state.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Gowon Estate Police Division received a call from some residents of Naval Block of the estate informing them about the shootings and killing of three people by the unknown gunmen on 41 Road, Union Bank Block in the estate. Addressing the issue, he said; “While at the scene of the shooting, the police recovered nine expended cartridges and a bunch of keys. “At Igando General Hospital, one unknown male corpse was recovered and evacuated to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba for preservation and autopsy. “Further information given to the police revealed that two male corpses were taken away by their families. ”One male survivor, Doba Ngoze, is currently on admission at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba,” he said.

The news of the kidnap of the candidate was announced by his brother Ifeaka Nwakiri while speaking in an interview with The Punch. “They took him with his Mercedes car. We have reported the matter at the Kala Police station”, he said.

Gunmen on Thursday murdered, Nnaemeka Ugboma, the chairman of Ejemekwuru Customary Court in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

Ugboma was killed by gunmen who operated in motorcycles in Imo while presiding over a court session, sources disclose. According to Punch, the murder caused panic in the Ejemekwuru community as natives and residents alike fled their homes. One of the sources said; ” The jurist was a law graduate of 1991 set. He was killed in his court while sitting. His killers came with motorcycles. They came into the court, dragged him out and shot him dead and drove off. His corpse was there as people in court fled. The whole thing is confusing because nobody knew any reason while they killed him. He was from the Nnebukwu community in Oguta LGA here.

When contacted, the chairman of the Owerri Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ugochukwu Allinor, who confirmed the killing said that the branch would communicate with the public about its actions in regard to the incident. Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the police in Imo, refused to take his calls when contacted. He is also yet to respond to a text message sent to his mobile according to Punch.

The Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike has revealed the arrest of three gunmen who murdered three policemen on the Rumuokoro flyover in Port Harcourt.

It would be recalled that on the 25th of November, some unknown gunmen kidnapped the managing director of the IGPES Group of Oil and Gas Company, Seni Awosike, and killed three of his police escort.
Speaking about the new development in the case at Rivers State Emblem Appeal Fund Launching on Tuesday, Nyesom Wike announced that the gunmen have been arrested.
Wike further revealed the Rivers State government will be giving the families of each murdered police officer N20 million each amidst praising the police for their efficiency.
He said;
“I think that we are tired in this country with every year meeting to launch the emblem to support families of the fallen heroes.
“What I thought, as is done in advanced countries, the day should be used for remembrance of their (veterans) efforts.
“That means, by now, as a country, we should have a standing fund that will take care of the families of the fallen heroes. That is what serious countries should be talking about.”
