Madonna University, Nigeria, has extended its congratulations to Hilda Baci for her remarkable achievement in setting a new world record in the cooking marathon. In recognition of her outstanding accomplishment, the university, where Chef Hilda is an alumna, has awarded her a scholarship up to the PhD level.

In the statement, Madonna University acknowledged Chef Hilda’s remarkable feat and commended her for setting a new world record in the cooking marathon.

The statement reads; “The management, staff and students of Madonna University, Nigeria congratulate Hilda Bassey Effiong on the award of scholarship to PhD level and Madonna University, Nigeria highest merit award by the Founder and Chancellor. “These awards are in recognition of her achievement. Since its inception over two decades ago, Madonna University has prided itself as a pacesetter and record breaker with several achievements under its belt. For instance, it is on record that we are the first private university to go into full operation in Nigeria and the first Catholic University in the West African sub-region. Her four-day or five days cooking show passed the last two Big Brother shows of three months,” he wrote.

A Kenyan chef, Maliha Mohammed, who broke the record twice for longest cooking marathon has returned to challenge Hilda Baci.

Maliha announced via her social media handle that she will be breaking the Guinness world record for the longest cooking marathon in August. This is coming shortly after Hilda Baci made several headlines for breaking the world record on Monday, 15th May by cooking for 100 hours.

During an interview with TVC on Thursday, she revealed that five years ago, she had contemplated setting the record, but circumstances weren’t favourable at that time.

Hilda Baci continued to postpone it until 2023 when all lights were green and triumphed with over 100 hours setting a new record. In her words; “I thought about it five years ago, but then it wasn’t the right time. “I still had to go on a journey of self-discovery as well before I got to this point where I could confidently say, ‘oh I am ready to do this. Sensational, internationally renowned chef, Hilda Essien Bassey better known as Hilda Baci has been featured in an exam question following her recent cooking record. The chef had achieved fame after cooking for hundred hours, shattering the previous record held by an Indian chef, Lata Tondon.

A lecturer at Akwa Ibom Polytechnic, Ikot, Osurua decided to utilize her as an example to set questions for students on May 17. The question had asked the Mass Communication students to utilize Hilda Baci’s Cook-a-Thon record to explain a psychological theory propounded by a Canadian Psychologist, Albert Bandura. After her record-breaking achievement, Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, shares her thoughts on the event, including her toughest moment. On Monday, May 15, the 27-year-old chef made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking time.

Hilda Baci cooked continuously for 100 hours, surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes held by Indian chef Lata Tondon in 2019. Her cooking marathon began on May 11, 2023, and concluded late on May 15. During the event, she cooked over 200 meals and served them to an impressive crowd of more than 4,000 people. In a recent interview with Pulse, Hilda spoke about her achievement, revealing that the most challenging part of the marathon was the first six hours, during which she had to pray for strength.

“I am amazed at the outpouring of love from Nigerians towards achieving this record. The first six hours were the toughest for me, and I had to pray to God for strength,” she said. “I appreciate everyone who took the time to support and encourage me by visiting the venue to cheer me on or driving the conversation on social platforms. “Your unwavering passion to see me succeed through this attempt is heartfelt. I am grateful to my family, the various teams that worked with me on this project, and fans from all over the world who kept the passion going,” she added.

Why Hilda Baci may not be certified as Guinness breaker

A Liberian man identified as Gary has given reasons why Hilda Baci may not be certified as a Guinness World Record breaker. He made this statement after she was compared to a Liberian chef, Wonyean Aloycious, who recently declared his intention to challenge the Nigerian chef.

Gary maintained that Liberian chef, Aloycious is bigger than Hilda Baci when it comes to preparing food. He added that the management of Guinness World Records will not recognize her for twerking while cooking.
