Man sentenced to death by hanging in Zamfara for his killing friend over N100

The Zamfara State High Court has handed down a death sentence to Anas Dahiru, a resident of Unguwar Dallatu in Gusau, after he was found guilty of killing his friend.
Dahiru has been sentenced to death by hanging for the brutal murder of his friend, Shamsu Ibrahim, over a trivial dispute involving a mere N100 (One Hundred Naira) in 2017.
The presiding judge, Mukhtar Yusha’u, carefully considered the details presented by both sides during the trial.

After a thorough examination of the evidence, the court reached the conclusion that the accused, Anas Dahiru, was indeed responsible for the heinous crime.
In a solemn pronouncement, Judge Yusha’u invoked the stipulations of section 221 of the Penal Code, declaring Dahiru guilty of the murder of Shamsu Ibrahim.
Consequently, the court sentenced him to death by hanging.

Waithera, who admitted to creating a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Gerald Mutiso.

In her statement to the court, she expressed remorse for her actions and attributed the outburst to the depression she has been grappling with since losing her job. According to court records, the confrontation unfolded when Waithera returned home in an inebriated state and engaged in a quarrel with her mother, accusing her of neglect since the loss of her job in 2020. The accused lamented feeling unloved in her own home, escalating the argument into chaos. Amidst the confrontation, Waithera reportedly dismissed the intervention of her young brother, took a matchbox, and retreated to her room, where she threatened to set herself ablaze. Distraught, her mother and brother pleaded with her to reconsider, eventually alerting the authorities, who promptly arrested Waithera. During her court appearance, Waithera’s emotional state was palpable as she recounted the distress that led to the regrettable incident. Her brother, listed as a witness in the case, will only testify if she chooses to deny the charges before conviction and sentencing.

The former signee of Davido, Trevboi has been declared wanted after allegedly killing a young man at a nightclub in Fadeyi, Lagos. A friend of the deceased with the Twitter handle Cloud Target took to his page to disclose that Trevboi shot and killed the man at Bar 38 club yesterday.

One Aniekan James has been paraded by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for the alleged killing of his only son, Odudu James, aged 35. During the parade of the suspect and 268 others apprehended for different offences, the Commissioner of Police for the state, Olatoye Durosinmi, revealed that Aniekan had purportedly taken the lives of numerous individuals in Lagos and Abia states. According to the police commissioner, the suspect was apprehended on June 16, 2023, by the Ukanafun Division operatives. “On June 16, 2023, one Aniekan James of Ikot Ndot village in Ukanafun LGA was arrested by the Ukanafun division for shooting his 35-year-old only son, Odudu James, who had been having a war of words with him. The suspect is alleged to be a habitual murderer who has committed murders in Lagos and Aba states,” he stated. Additionally, the commissioner presented the individual suspected of kidnapping the vice-chancellor of a private university, who was taken while on his way home by his former household staff. The commissioner further stated that the outstanding ransom amount, exceeding N2 million, and the Toyota Corolla employed in the abduction had been successfully retrieved. The vice-chancellor, also, has been reunited with his family. The police boss said, “On April 14, 2023, around 10.30am, the vice-chancellor of a private University in the state was kidnapped on his way home. “Two days later, being the 16th, in a prompt and discreet investigation, operatives of the anti-kidnap squad of the command arrested one Prince Thursday Okon, a former domestic worker of the VC. He was sacked because of his criminal tendencies; he then masterminded the kidnap. He was arrested along with two of his gang members, Saviour Sunday Luke and Richard Friday, all of Ikot Ebam village in Mkpan Enin LGA. “The sum of N1,270,000 cash was recovered as part of the ransom paid, while N250,000 was left in one of the suspects’ accounts. The lifeless body of a man identified as Kirwa Kipngetich was found hanging on a mango tree in a few stabbing his wife to death. The incident is said to have happened in Cheberen, Mogotio, Baringo county of Kenya. The lifeless corpse of the man hanging on the mango tree was discovered by a neighbor.

According to the chief of Cheberen, Sammy Kandie the man who killed his wife the night before, fled from an angry crowd after he was discovered and went into hiding in a nearby bush. He reportedly stabbed his wife Leolinda Jeruto, who is a JSS teacher at Tian primary school, Cheberen, Mogotio, to death with a knife. One neighbour told the police, “We suspect that domestic differences could have caused the dreadful ordeal. The duo had two children and had been having issues that kept them estranged for a while.” Investigations are currently ongoing.

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a young man who killed his girlfriend who planned to dump him for another man.

According to the spokesperson who spoke for the command, DSP Muhammad Jalige, he disclosed that the suspect was about to be lynched by a mob on the 21st of April, 2023 before he was rescued. DSP Jalige revealed that the Command received a disturbing call that there was a mob action at NEPA Roundabout in Kaduna metropolis where an unruly crowd were about to lynch a man. He added in the statement that the operatives mobilized themselves and rushed to the scene. “On getting there they met the suspect lying unconscious and surrounded by a crowd,” he said. DSP Jalige revealed that the suspect attacked his girlfriend of Old Command Secondary and Nursery School, Sokoto Road, Kaduna with a machete and inflicted multiple degrees of injury on her face, arms and hands. He was reportedly have chopped off her left arm for planning to dump him for another man. The victim was rushed to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, for treatment where a doctor on duty confirmed she was dead. “The corpse of the lady has been deposited at the same hospital, for an autopsy,” Jalige said.

Keke driver lynched to death after killing passenger over N50 in Bayelsa

A keke driver has been lynched to death shortly after he stabbed a young man named Douglas Joseph to death over N50.

According to reports the incident happened in Yenizue-Epie community of Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. The passenger who was stabbed by the Keke driver, Douglas Joseph, 30, was a native of the community and a father of three. According to an eyewitness, the keke driver charged the passenger a fare of N150 which was supposed to be N100. The passenger, Douglas did not agree to pay the fare and it ended in a fight. “He said he was coming from Opolo community to Kpansia which was supposed to be N100, but the Keke rider insisted on collecting N150. “As we were separating them, we saw the Keke rider bring out a dagger. We thought it was just to scare the youth. But he stabbed him on his lap and the young man fell to the ground. People prevented the Keke rider from running away. Unfortunately, the wounded victim died. Following the death of the passenger, “the Keke rider was lynched by a mob that hit him with different objects”, the eyewitness added.

Kano court orders killing of ‘noisy’ cockerel for disturbing neighbours

A Kano State magistrate court has ordered the owner of a noisy cockerel to kill it for disturbing the neighbours in the community.

This order from the court comes after two neighbours filed a complaint with the court against the owner of the ‘noisy’ cockerel. The neighbours complained about how the cockerel has been disturbing them in the community. According to the neighbours, the unending crows from the cock disturb their sleep and the peace of the neighbourhood. This complaint made the court order the owner Isyaku Shu’aibu, to slaughter his bird. One of the complainants, Yusuf Muhammed, of Ja’en quarters of Kano’s metropolis told the court that the cockerel’s endless crowing was an infringement of his right to a restful sleep. The defendant, Mr Shu’aibu prayed the court to stay the judgement until Friday, April 7, 2023, as he bought the bird to celebrate Easter with. The court has however ruled that Shu’aibu, owner of the bird should cage and slaughter it on Friday or face a penalty from the court.

The Ikeja High Court sat on the case of the young man and sentenced him to death by hanging after he was found guilty of killing his 89-year-old employer, Ajoke John, and her daughter, Oreoluwa John who was also 38 years. The accused was said to have been the domestic worker for the two employers whom he brutally murdered on the 19th of June, 2019 n their residence in Surulere. Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay found the accused guilty of a three-count charge bordering on armed robbery and murder. “He killed Adejoke by strangling her and Oreoluwa by stabbing her to death. As the defense did not raise an objection to the admissibility of the confessional statement, there is no doubt that the defendant confessed to the crimes. I have considered the evidence of the security guard, an Okada man, one Yahya Ibrahim, the house help, and a police Inspector.” “The defendant could not explain what he was doing with all the stolen items he was found with at about 2:00 a.m. on the date he was arrested.” “The court is satisfied with the total evidence to establish the guilt of the defendant. This court has found Joseph Ogbu guilty of these heinous crimes, and you are hereby sentenced to death by hanging. May God have mercy on your soul,” Justice Modupe Nicole-Clay added.
