Additionally, he has kept five clean sheets, unmatched by any other goalkeeper. Despite the favourable statistics, Onana has faced criticism for notable errors leading to goals. His recent misfortune came in the Champions League against Galatasaray, where he palmed a free-kick into his own net. However, Ten Hag remains confident in Onana’s abilities, stating that the statistical performance showcases his standing among the best in the league.
Inter Milan CEO confirms Manchester United is interested in Onana

Inter Milan CEO who spoke at the Gran Gala in Italy last night, said while Manchester United have expressed an interest in Andre Onana, he is yet to receive an offer. Marotta said; “Manchester United expressed a particular interest, but that needs to blossom into making a proposal over the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will make a careful evaluation.” United will soon have to make a decision on a bid for Onana but also have the matter of De Gea’s future to resolve. That latest proposal remains unsigned and De Gea is now set to become a free agent, with his United contract expiring on Friday evening. Even if De Gea can be convinced to stay at Old Trafford, United could still pursue a move for Onana, with manager Erik ten Hag keep to find high-level competition in goal. 27-year-old Onana moved to San Siro from Ajax last July, and he impressed football lovers at Inter during the 2022-23 campaign, helping them to reach the Champions League final, in addition to lifting the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia title. Onana featured on 41 occasions for his Italian side during the recent season, keeping 19 clean sheets in the process.
Chelsea drop out of race to sign Andre Onana

Evening Standard reported that Tottenham-linked Brentford goalie David Raya is one name on the shortlist. Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili are also on the list. Andre Onana started his youth career in his homeland before graduating from Barcelona’s famed La Masia setup. But he rose to prominence during his seven-and-a-half-year stint with Ajax. The period also included a controversial doping ban, which left him on the sidelines for nine months. Meanwhile, his spell with Ajax ended last summer, with the 27-year-old leaving as a free agent. The Cameroonian international joined Inter Milan in a Bosman move but took some time to get going. But Onana has not looked back since usurping Samir Handanovic as the first-choice shot-stopper. And he kept 19 clean sheets in 41 games for Inter Milan this past season. But Inter’s perilous financial situation has left them in a spot of bother while alerting suitors like Chelsea and Manchester United. Manchester United coach, Erik ten Hag. Recent reports suggested David de Gea would sign a new contract with Manchester United. But the latest updates have claimed that the Spaniard will depart from Old Trafford as a free agent. So Manchester United will need a top-class replacement. This would signal a reunion between the Cameroon stopper and Erik ten Hag, with the pair previously working together at Ajax.
Andre Onana retires from international football after World Cup fallout with Cameroon’s coach Rigobert Song
Cameroon’s goalkeeper Andre Onana has retired from international football at the age of 26 after he was sent home from the 2022 World Cup.
Onana who played only at Cameroon’s World Cup opener against Switzerland was dropped in their second game against Serbia after a heated argument with coach Rigobert Song over his tactics.
The Inter Milan goalkeeper reportedly ‘refused’ to alter his playing style for Song, which led to him being replaced by Devis Epassy.
Though Cameroon defeated Brazil in their final group game, it wasn’t enough to see them progress as Switzerland finished second to the South Americans.
Announcing his retirement days after the tournament was concluded, Onana wrote;
“After endless hours of training, endless trips and a lot perseverance, I can proudly say that I have fulfilled my great dream.
“But every story, however beautiful it may be, has to end. And my story with the Cameroonian national team has come to an end.
“Players come and go, names are fleeting, but Cameroon comes before any person or player.
“Cameroon remains eternal and so does my love for the national team and for our people who have always supported us.
“My feeling will never change. My Cameroonian heart will continue to beat and wherever I go I will always fight to lift the flag of Cameroon as high as possible.
“I will continue to support as a fan, just as the more than 27 million Cameroonians do at every match. I can only thank all those who trusted me and believed that I could add and contribute to this team.”
