Vice President of Nigeria, Shettima stirs reactions as he pledges 25 million naira to indigent female students and asks men to go and hustle for their own school fees. The Nigerian politician and philanthropist was at a school to attend their convocation lecture.

Kashima noted that the money is meant to be used to pay the school fees of indigent female students. Speaking at the occasion, Shettima said: “The men, I am just like you. Benin youths storm out in numbers to protest against popular crossdresser, Bobrisky being in Benin after he allegedly insulted the Oba of Benin.
Last year, the socialite sparked a great uproar and outrage after he jokingly asked in a video that the Oba of Benin should come and marry him.

Many of the youths of Benin have considered this as an insult to the Benin culture and they have considered him a persona non-grata.
Word on the street is that the crossdresser is coming to the state again for an event and many youths flocked the street to protest and express their unacceptance of this.
They were seen holding placards which conveyed their displeasure in such words as “He is a bad influence; We don’t want him in our state”.

OAU students storm EFCC office, protest release of fellow students

Some OAU students have taken matters into their hands, boarding buses to EFCC office to protest the release of their colleagues arrested by the EFCC. Today, EFCC officials went on a raid in some off-campus hostels in the University, arresting over 60 students without any search warrant. The EFCC has confirmed this on their website today, claiming that the arrest was based on intelligence and they have retrieved 9 exotic cars alongside 190 mobile phones. Although the OAU students were blocked by gun carrying EFCC officials at the entrance who kept telling them to shift back, the students remained adamant, protesting the release of their fellow colleagues. Football Italia said the decision to ban the anti-Lukaku whistles was made during a meeting between Roma, Inter, and security authorities to discuss safety measures for the match. The Italian sports outlet reported that Roma did not specifically request the ban, as it was an exclusive decision by the authorities. Following the whistle ban, the authorities have issued warning of a potential disciplinary action should Inter supporters go ahead with their planned action against Lukaku. Lukaku ended his loan spell at Inter last season and was almost up for a permanent move to the Italian giants side but had a change of mind mid-way. The protest ensued barely an hour after the Red Devils released their new home kit for the 2023-24 season on Tuesday, June 27. Supporters are furious after seven frustrating months of waiting for the Glazer family to finally sell the club, with the Americans having put United on the market in November yet failed to communicate with fans since.

It later reopened to continue selling merchandise. United had been expecting a congregation of fans after the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) released a statement confirming plans for a protest. It read; “The overwhelming majority of United fans want to see a conclusion to this protracted sale process with the majority supporting a full sale, at least based on our soundings. A video of some commercial motorcyclists in Cameroon, protesting against the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria by President Bola Tinubu is trending online. Previous governments had tried unsuccessfully to remove the subsidy which has kept fuel prices artificially low, although they have steadily climbed through the years. Tinubu and some other big-weight politicians in the country joined the protest at the time, claiming that such subsidy does not exist. However, at his inaugural speech on May 29, Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy. In a seemingly off-the-cuff remark during his inaugural speech, Tinubu declared, “the fuel subsidy is gone,” adding that it was unsustainable. The rising costs could not be justified as resources dwindle, he said. “We shall instead re-channel the funds into better investment in public infrastructure, education, healthcare, and jobs that will materially improve the lives of millions,” Tinubu added.

It also lends credence to claims of Nigeria’s subsidized fuel being stolen and taken to other countries where they are resold for more profit. MC Oluomo bans tax collection in some parts of Lagos following protest

Chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Association, Mc Oluomo, has banned collections of illegal tax collection in some parts of Lagos.

These taxes are levied by agberos in some parts of the state following, which caused a protest by commercial bus drivers. FIJ reported that it was part of his intervention in the conflict involving commercial drivers and highway tax collectors who target transporters in the state.

A driver stated: “Mc Oluomo told us Thursday afternoon when we held a meeting with him at the state council that no driver from Oshodi to Tollgate must be compelled to pay illegal agbero taxes anymore. We are only to buy two tickets in a day, after which we will not pay anything aside from loading fees. The normal ticket sold and approved by the Lagos State Park Management is just N800. He said those extra taxes imposed at Iyana Ipaja and Agbado Ijaiye were no longer valid. We can either buy our daily tickets in Oshodi or Tollgate, and either will be recognised. Afterwards, we will buy the council ticket and booking for security, which is about N500.” The driver added that MC Oluomo has said he and his colleagues will no longer pay for tickets on Saturdays and Sundays. He said; “For weekend jobs, Mc Oluomo has mandated that no driver should be made to buy tickets on Saturdays and Sundays. The union should only compel us to buy tickets from Monday to Friday. We should be given the chance to take something home to our families.”
