At some point during the begging he called me on the phone and said “baby, please come out of the car so they see you’re still around.” “During all this chaos, the driver had saved my contact as “my love” Thankfully they let us go after wasting our time for almost 30 minutes and he didn’t have to pay them off.” See the post below:

He said that his Nigerian instinct quickly kicked in and he pursued the bike man with all his might. The man revealed that he was getting close to the biker, who thought he wouldn’t pursue him, when he threw away the phone and rode faster. His tweet read: “A whole Lagos street boy like me… London boys nearly run me street this morning. While at the Bus stop checking my map to see when the next bus 🚌 will come, a guy on a bicycle 🚲 snatched my phone “Cheers mate”, and sped off. It’s today I know that I still have mad reflex. The way I ran after him on the main road ehn, even the cars had to stop… he thought he was sleek by not using the bicycle lane, thinking I would give up once he infiltrates the cars on the main road. The moment he realised I was very close to catching up with him and I was going to use my umbrella on his head, he dropped the phone on the road and zoomed off. It’s why I will never trust all these South Eastern London boys who go about with durags and face covers on bicycles. Anyways, I will soon leave this London for you people. 😔” See post below:

"I used to hawk fruits in traffic" – Crayon recounts trench to triumph story

Singer, Crayon. Photo Source: Instagram. He said that the album is a musical depiction of what he had struggled through to become where he is today. “My ‘Trench to Triumph’ story is about where I come from, and how I got to where I am today. “I was born in Orile Iganmu (Lagos) and when I was seven years old, we moved to a ‘face-me-I-face-you’ apartment in Ojo. We were about nine or 10 people sharing a room. I am the eldest child of my parents, and I faced a lot of financial struggles growing up. Money was very tight. I was sent home regularly from school due to unpaid fees, and I ended up taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination five times. “During that time, I was working on my music, and helping my mum at the stall where she sold fruits in the market. Sometimes, I would even hawk the fruits in traffic. Going from that kind of life to being signed by Mavin Records, and on my way to becoming a global superstar, is my triumph. I used to be in the trenches and now I am triumphant.” He also spoke on his experience meeting with the veteran actress, Ngozi Ezeonu, after singing a song which featured her name. “First, I appreciate the marketing team at Mavin Records. We were going back and forth on ideas on how to push my song, ‘Ngozi’, and Ella, the head of marketing, suggested that should do something with Ngozi Ezeonu. “So, I reached out to her management, later contacted her personally and shared the idea with her. She was really open to the idea. She is such a sweet soul. She actually knew the song, because her kids used to playing it in the house. I was so excited seeing her, and it was a full-circle moment for me, because I used to watch her in movies while growing up, and my mum is one of her biggest fans. “When I showed my mum the video of my visit to her, she was quite excited as well. That visit was one of my best and funniest moments this year. When I posted the videos and pictures, some people even thought she was my mum.”

Tems recounts her prison experience in Uganda

"I didn’t even know I was going to get out" – Tems recounts her prison experience in Uganda

Nigerian singer, Tems recently opened up about her terrifying arrest and confinement to a tiny prison room in Uganda. She described her experience to Angie Martinez during an interview.

Tems

When she was picked up from her hotel, she thought it was a joke at first, but when she was given a smelly, dirty prison uniform, the reality set in. She was afraid she might not survive. The Grammy award winner said her tiny cell in prison consisted only of a floor, some blankets, and some tissues. She was isolated from the outside world for two exhausting days and was unaware of her whereabouts. The singer started crying as soon as she saw her uniform, which smelled awful. She hoped, but she had no idea if or when she would be freed.

Tems

Tems said she created bonds with other female inmates, many of whom were detained for insignificant offences, some of which were the result of prison guard corruption. Following a performance in Uganda on December 12, 2020, Tems and another artist were accused of breaking COVID-19 regulations, which led to this ordeal. In her words: “I thought I wasn’t gonna come out. I thought I was seeing it for a reason like maybe I was meant to help the people. I was settling in because I adapted real quick and as I was walking in I started to cry because they gave me my uniform and it stunk because they don’t wash it. It was a small room and there was nothing, there’s just the floor they give you blankets and tissues and you’re just on the floor, no bed and I did it for two days. I didn’t even know I was going to get out, I didn’t have any ears on the ground nobody told me anything. Outside everyone was like ‘free Tems, free Omah lay but inside I was just hopeful, waiting.”
