Two secondary school students have been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency for faking their own kidnap. On Monday, the pupils, ages 13 and 15, from JSS 3 and SSS 1 courses, confessed to the crime at the state headquarters of Amotekun Corps in Akure, the state capital. The children, who are siblings, said they meant to act to retaliate against their mother, whom they accused of mistreating them. The Commander of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, stated at the corps’ headquarters that an inquiry has commenced to determine the motivation for the siblings’ actions. He further stated that 28 other individuals were apprehended from other parts of the state. He said that the arrest was made possible by a joint patrol of his troops, the military, and other security organizations. “This is in continuation of our efforts to ensure that kidnapping in Ondo State becomes a thing of the past. We have people who kidnapped themselves and raised alarm, and in our diligent investigations, we were able to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance to the extent that they confessed. We have also kidnapped suspects of some very high-profile individuals in the society that we are working on,” he added.
