This run of form has seen them slip to 20th in the Championship, just six points clear of the relegation zone. In a statement, Birmingham’s CEO Garry Cook acknowledged that Rooney’s appointment “did not go as planned,” leading to the decision to part ways with the former Manchester United striker.
