Lagos to UK N1.9m, Cotonou to London 5 times cheaper

A Nigerian lady with Tiktok handle @Grandma Shasha has drawn attention to a staggering disparity in flight costs between Lagos and Cotonou routes to London. According to her TikTok video, it appears to be more cost-effective for Nigerian travelers to opt for flights from Cotonou, Benin Republic, to London rather than the more conventional Lagos-London route.

Photo credit: Grandma Shasha  Source: Tiktok The lady posted a screenshot of flight costs for the Lagos-London route, which showed the price soaring above N1.9 million (Nigerian Naira). However, the same flight from Cotonou to London was priced at a significantly lower N374,000, making it a substantially cheaper alternative. In her words; “Traveling requires a lot of money and careful planning, after your visa is granted, your next stop is flight booking. Be a smart traveller. For me, it will be a lot easier to go to Cotonou and board the flight since it is visa-free.” Interestingly, a recent analysis conducted by Business Day Newspaper has supported Grandma Shasha’s claims. Part of the analysis reads; “A flight from South Africa to London or Istanbul, despite the long distance, has always been cheaper than flights from Lagos to London or Istanbul, on the same airline and same date. The difference in ticket prices has made a number of Nigerian passengers fly from Accra, Ghana to London, Canada and other frequently visited destinations in a bid to cut costs.” @one user said; “Please help me check Lagos to Dubai.” @UAP said; “Check Cotonou to Kigali please.” @user1474741204360 said; “Please which countries are cheaper for vacation?” @Larrystrings commented: “You don cast it, them go increase the price.” @Mohammed Dabo said; “Can you do to Canada please?” @Anita Viver said; “If they increase Cotonou price it’s to go to Togo.” See below; @grandmaoflagos Traveling requires a lot of money and careful planning, after your visa is granted, your next stop is flight booking,Be a smart traveller#fyp #visa #travel #japa ♬ original sound – GRANDMASHASHA

Harry Toffolo charged with breaching FA betting rules 375 times

Nottingham Forest defender, Harry Toffolo, was on Wednesday, July 12, charged with breaching English FA betting rules 375 times. Harry Toffolo is alleged to have breached the FA betting rules 375 times between January 2014 and March 2017, the FA said. He was under contract at Norwich City at the time and subsequently had loan spells at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough, and Scunthorpe. The FA said in a statement; “Nottingham Forest’s Harry Toffolo has been charged with misconduct in relation to our betting rules. Rule E8 prohibits players from betting on games, asking others to do so on their behalf or sharing privileged information for betting purposes.

Source: Reuters Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier, then with Atlético Madrid, was found guilty in December 2020 of violating it and was banned from all football-related activity for 10 weeks, also being fined £70,000. Ivan Toney, the Brentford forward, was banned from football for eight months in May after he admitted 232 breaches of the FA’s Rule E1 (b) which prevents any footballer from making any type of bet on the game. Toney was charged with a total of 262 breaches but Toffolo’s misconduct appears to be far more serious. Brentford had been resigned to selling Toney this summer when he enters the last two years of his contract amidst interest from Manchester United and Newcastle after talks over a new deal broke down last autumn, but it is unlikely any club will meet their £50million valuation now given he will miss more than half the season.

I’ve been here on a divine mandate because I saw that I would be governor in 1992 when I was local government chairman. I proclaimed it and told everyone that cared to listen to me and it came to pass and although it came through a very turbulent situation of time. Even in 2015 it was not easy but by the grace of God, I made it. To further confirm that it is a divine mandate, in 2017, I chose that I would not contest for a second term, that I would finish my first term and by the grace of God leave for another person but God’s divine arrangement was not what I thought. “God told me he was not done with me that I would contest and win. And I proclaimed it to the people, I told them it was more turbulent than 2015. All the might that you know, the federal might, the state might, the local might, whatever might came against me but I still made it. So, I give glory to God for making it possible.

Terrorist Fulanis tried to assassinate me seven times — Governor Ortom

“Throughout my tenure for about eight years, it has not been easy. I have passed through challenges just like the Psalmist said, -Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil because God is with me, His rod and his staff will comfort me and he will prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies and anoint my head, my cup will run over and surely his mercies and goodness shall follow me all the days of my life, that is what I have seen. I’ve gone through very turbulent times. Many people around here and the federal level even attempted to even remove me as governor through illegal means but they were unable to do it. “The terrorist Fulanis attempted to assassinate me seven good times but God preserved my life, they were not able to get me. All I have to say is that I’m grateful to Almighty God for helping me.”
