Leeds United coach Sam Allardyce has lashed out at his players for giving out two penalties to Newcastle during a match today, May 13. Leeds United made a flying start when Luke Ayling hammered in the rebound from close range after Nick Pope parried Rodrigo’s powerful header in the 7th minute. The hosts had a chance to make it two in the 28th minute, but Patrick Bamford’s spot kick was well saved by Pope. It proved to be a key moment as Newcastle responded to the let-off with a penalty of their own under three and a half minutes later, and Wilson made no mistake with his low strike to level matters. The England forward then turned the match on its head in the 69th minute when he once again kept his nerve from the spot to snare his 10th goal in his last nine matches and his 17th Premier League goal of the campaign. Though the draw pushed Leeds United above Leicester to the 18th spot, they however remain in the relegation zone, a point adrift of Everton having played a game more. The outcome of the match left Allardyce frustrated as he accused his players of not listening to his instruction. He promised to “tell them off”. Allardyce said; “We have to stop giving penalties away. We gave one away last week as well. I’ve been talking about staying on your feet all week. I don’t like it when they ignore me. They’ll get told off next week, believe me.”

Erik ten Hag speaks after Manchester United was knocked out of Europa by Sevilla
Erik ten Hag was left furious with his players after Manchester United was dumped out of the Europa League on Thursday night by Sevilla. Despite Sevilla’s struggles in La Liga, sitting 13th and still not safe from the threat of relegation, the Andalusians outfought and outplayed Manchester United, third in the Premier League. With the tie level at 2-2 from the first leg, Harry Maguire failed to control a pass from David de Gea after just seven minutes, which allowed Erik Lamela to pick the ball off him and pass it to Youssef En-Nesyri for an easy finish. Loic Bade headed home early in the second half and En-Nesyri added another after a David de Gea mistake. Expressing his frustration after the match, Erik ten Hag aimed at the mistakes that had been committed by De Gea as he pinpointed the reason for his team’s defeat. He said; “It’s clear. When we make such mistakes, it’s difficult to win a football game. It’s a problem and we have to acknowledge it but against Brighton, we have an opportunity to work on that. You have seen what I have seen. We were not composed or calm. “It’s a problem, we can’t run away from it. On Sunday we have to step up and show more character and more personality.”
Erik ten Hag confirms Wout Weghorst could stay at Manchester United for another season
Manchester United coach, Erik ten Hag has confirmed that on-loan striker Wout Weghorst could still be at Old Trafford next season. 30-year-old Weghorst who has scored just two goals for the Red Devils since his arrival in January, still has more than two years left on the contract he signed when he arrived at Turf Moor in a £12 million deal from Wolfsburg. He caught the eye while playing for the Netherlands at the World Cup and has become a cult hero at Old Trafford thanks to the fiercely-competitive attitude that saw him clash with Lionel Messi in Qatar. When asked if the 6ft 6ins international could be part of his long-term plans, Erik ten Hag said; “Of course. I think he is doing a lot of elements of football really well. “Wout is doing a really good job for us. He is the leader of the process in pressing, he starts the press and is very good in backward pressing. He is also taking up (good) positions and in his link-up play he’s doing really well. “He is making good movements, making space for others, so he’s also good in set-plays. He is really contributing to this team. I think after Christmas we have played 25 games and we lost two – and Weghorst played almost all of the games so he is really part of the success.”
David de Gea rejects Manchester United contract extension offer
David De Gea has reportedly rejected initial Manchester United contract renewal offer. The 32-year-old Spaniard who joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011, during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge at the club, agreed to a £375,000-a-week salary in September 2019, making him the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world. With his contract expected to expire in a few months, The Athletic reported that the club’s opening proposal for a contract extension has been dismissed by De Gea. While De Gea wants to stay at Old Trafford, he also feels his performances justify him being one of the best-paid players in the squad. It is expected they will continue to negotiate in the hope of reaching a positive conclusion. De Gea has so far made 529 appearances for the Red Devils. He has won four Players’ Player of the Year awards during that time and lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Europa League.
Southampton reacts to vile racist abuse against Kyle Walker-Peters after draw with Manchester United
Southampton has reacted to the racist abuse Kyle Walker-Peters was subjected to during the 0-0 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, March 12.
In spite of the draw, Southampton is just two points from safety and five behind 12th-place Crystal Palace with 12 matches to go. After the match was concluded, Kyle Walker-Peters suffered an array of racist abuse on Instagram. The 25-year-old had not posted for a week, but some individuals went onto his last post to insult the right-back. Having received an array of racist messages in the form of language and monkey emojis, Walker-Peters was also targeted with other types of hate, which included posts that wished him injury. Comments were visible on Walker-Peters’ Instagram account for over eight hours and were still on there on Monday morning. Southampton condemned the racist abuses in a statement released on Monday, March 13. It read; “In February 2021 the club made a statement about one of our young players receiving abhorrent racial abuse following a match against Manchester United.
“More than two years on, we find ourselves in the exact same position: disgusted and disappointed in the behaviour of those online who lower themselves to abusing players for the colour of their skin. “What is equally frustrating is the lack of meaningful action in those two years from the social media platforms who allow such hatred to breed and fester. “As we have said before, Southampton Football Club fights every day to remove such people from our sport and our community in order to protect our players, our staff, Southampton fans and those football supporters around the world who recognise and celebrate the diversity that makes football special. “We have forwarded the messages concerned to Hampshire Police in keeping with our normal processes when dealing with these cases. We have also reported these posts to the social media platforms involved. “We can only hope that they finally pay attention to what continues to be a major problem and that we do not find ourselves repeating these words in another two years time.”
Jude Bellingham serves a response after being asked if he would join Manchester United
English footballer and Borussia Dortmund Captain, Jude Bellingham has given a response to his speculated move to Manchester United. Some top clubs in Europe are already lining up to get the signature of the former Birmingham City midfielder who has consistently shone both on the international and club stage for the Three Lions and German giants Borussia Dortmund. Some of these clubs include Manchester United, Liverpool, and Spanish giants Real Madrid. A fan recently asked Bellingham if he could become a Red Devil in a video shared on social media. While taking a photo with the midfielder, he asked: “Are you gonna come Man U?” Bellingham then moved away, chuckling before replying: “No. Don’t be silly.” Man Utd fan: “Are you gonna come Man U?” Bellingham: “don’t be silly” 🫢#lfc pic.twitter.com/O0DwI9C4Wg — Liverpool Photos (@LiverpoolPhotox) March 10, 2023 Any deal for Bellingham in any capacity is not expected to be cheap with reports suggesting that Dortmund will hold out for around £130m for his services. That will certainly be a price that will disgruntle officials at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were originally linked with a swoop for Bellingham ahead of his move to Dortmund from Birmingham but were beaten to the punch by the German side, a fee of £25m paid to the Midlands outfit.
Bellingham, 19, has made 122 appearances for the Bundesliga side since then and has just over two years remaining on his contract at Signal Iduna Park.
Rashford debunks claim of Manchester United giving up after 7-0 defeat to Liverpool
Marcus Rashford has shut down claim of Manchester United ‘giving up’ in their 7-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, March 5. Speaking ahead of their Europa League clash with Real Betis tomorrow, March 9, Rashford admitted that their communication during the match was bad. He said; “We didn’t give up, that’s nonsense. We were unorganised, yes, communication was bad, yes, that’s why we conceded the goals. But it comes down to the fact that I believe everyone was trying to get back into the game that much, we came away from the team’s principles in and out of possession. “I felt like the forwards were just trying to press as a unit but we weren’t connected with the midfield. And then the same with the midfield and the defence. We were trying to get a grip of the game at 2-0 and 3-0, we were talking but I don’t think we were really in agreement of what to do.”
Manchester United get their worst defeat in 92 years following 7-0 defeat to Liverpool
Manchester United have gotten their heaviest defeat since Boxing Day 1931 after being defeated 7-0 by Liverpool today, March 5. Gakpo put the Reds in front moments before half-time, cutting in from the left and curling into the far corner of David de Gea’s net. United needed a response at the start of the second half, but instead it was the host who struck quickly as Darwin Nunez scored a scrappy second. Just as the visitors prepared to mount a comeback, it was three as Gakpo’s deft finish rounded off a fluid counter-attack. It was already a hammering, but two goals from Mohamed Salah and another goal from Nunez put the cherry on top of the cake before Roberto Firmino added a seventh. It is Liverpool’s biggest ever win against United, breaking a record which had stood for more than a century. Liverpool beat United 7-1 on October 12, 1895, but now there is a new high point.
It is also the first time the Red Devils have lost by seven goals in any competition since that loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers more than 90 years ago. While Salah’s first goal in the match placed him level with club legend Robbie Fowler in the record scorer list, he went on to break record when he scored again to take his tally up to 129. Salah has now scored 11 goals across his last six appearances against the Old Trafford club as he struck twice in a historic 7-0 win at Anfield.
