The Red Devils who had pinned their hopes on a victory against the German powerhouse and a favourable result in Galatasaray’s clash with Copenhagen, have now been disappointed all round. Erik ten Hag’s squad struggled to make an impact in the game, and Kingsley Coman scored a 70th-minute strike to hand United a last-place finish in Group A. Harry Kane’s brilliance set the tone for Coman’s finish, having delivered a sublime pass.

It also means they won’t make it for the Europa League, as they finished button of the group. Instead, Galatasaray will take the position.

Eventually, United went on to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid. With the Mason Mount deal on the rocks and Rabiot committing to another year in Serie A, Manchester United may now turn to Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian was interested in leaving Roberto De Zerbi’s club in January but a move elsewhere failed to materialise. The 21-year-old has a price tag of £80m but it is understood that United would be open to reaching this figure due to his potential.

Manchester United has been trying to De Gea’s wages from £375,000 per week to £200,000 per week. In addition to the contract talks, Manchester United is actively pursuing a goalkeeper in the transfer market. Everton and England international Jordan Pickford has emerged as a top target for the Red Devils, with the shot-stopper expressing his desire to join the prestigious club. Another name linked with a move to Old Trafford is Inter’s Andre Onana, as United looks to strengthen their options between the posts. Rashford, on the other hand, has 12 months left on his £200,000/week contract after the club triggered an extension option this season. As negotiations continue behind the scenes, Rashford’s immediate focus will be on international duty with England. He is expected to feature in the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying match against North Macedonia on Monday, June 19.

De Gea’s game declined last season, paving the way for transfer rumours around his name. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly interested. The club has also been linked with many goalkeepers as the mystery surrounding the long-serving Red Devil’s future shows no signs of getting cleared. Insiders say Old Trafford’s top brass are relaxed about the goalkeeper’s next move. If he agrees fresh terms, that will cover the pay rise for United’s top scorer. And if he knocks it back and leaves, they save even more.
