Manchester United have confirmed that Donny van de Beek has completed a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt for the remainder of the season. The Dutch midfielder, who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in 2020 for £40 million, has struggled to secure regular playing time during his tenure at United. Despite making 62 appearances for the club, he has only started six Premier League matches. Van de Beek has only made two appearances this season for United, playing against Crystal Palace in the league and Carabao Cup. Aside Eintracht Frankfurt, the 26-year-old injury prone has had a previous loan spell at Everton during the second half of the 2021/22 season. With Euro 2024 approaching, Van de Beek is hopeful to make the most of his time at Frankfurt to prove himself ahead of potential national team selection for the Netherlands.

He resigned in May and transferred his duties to colleagues on June 1, but was asked by the board to formally remain in his position until 1 August to ensure a smooth handover. His resignation came on the back of the worst season in 14 years for the top Dutch club which finished third in the Eredivisie.

According to the video footage, which quickly went viral on social media, the police van can be seen in pursuit of a vehicle on a busy street. In the heat of the chase, the police van collided with a parked car owned by a customer who had brought it to the mechanic’s workshop for repairs. Eyewitnesses reported that the confusion arose when the police mistook the mechanic, who was test-driving the customer’s vehicle, for a suspect involved in fraudulent activities. The police, believing they were pursuing a criminal, engaged in a high-speed chase that resulted in the collision with the innocent customer’s car.

Though Klopp initially suggested the issue was not a serious one, subsequent tests revealed a significant muscle strain which would keep the defender out of action until mid-February.

“But for Virg, it’s harsh. He played an incredible amount of games over the last years. [Now] we cannot use him on the pitch at least. Off the pitch, we will do that.”
