Manchester United have confirmed that Donny van de Beek has completed a loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt for the remainder of the season. The Dutch midfielder, who arrived at Old Trafford from Ajax in 2020 for £40 million, has struggled to secure regular playing time during his tenure at United. Despite making 62 appearances for the club, he has only started six Premier League matches. Van de Beek has only made two appearances this season for United, playing against Crystal Palace in the league and Carabao Cup. 
Donny van de Beek – Getty image Eintracht Frankfurt hwo are currently sitting sixth in the Bundesliga, are expected to cover the majority of Van de Beek’s wages and have an option to make the deal permanent for around £9.5 million plus £2.6 million in add-ons. Aside Eintracht Frankfurt, the 26-year-old injury prone has had a previous loan spell at Everton during the second half of the 2021/22 season. With Euro 2024 approaching, Van de Beek is hopeful to make the most of his time at Frankfurt to prove himself ahead of potential national team selection for the Netherlands.

He’s currently in hospital in the intensive care unit and is in a stable condition. “Once there is more concrete information, an update will follow. Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.” Manchester United also released a statement confirming that Van der Sar has been admitted to a hospital. The statement read; “Manchester United is holding Edwin van der Sar and his family in our collective thoughts after hearing the news that the legendary goalkeeper has fallen seriously ill. “Edwin always receives a warm welcome whenever he returns to Old Trafford, having been one of the most popular and decorated goalkeepers in our club’s history. Between the Dutchman’s arrival from Fulham in June 2005 and his retirement from football in May 2011 at the age of 40, he made a total of 266 appearances and contributed hugely to the Reds winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League and Club World Cup, among other trophies under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He is also the second-highest-capped Netherlands player of all time with 130 international appearances. 52-year-old Van der Sar also won the Premier League four times at United, as well as the Champions League in 2008. He was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year on three separate occasions and won the division’s golden glove award for the most clean sheets in the 2008-09 season. After retirement, he returned to Ajax, where he took up the role of chief executive in 2016. He resigned in May and transferred his duties to colleagues on June 1, but was asked by the board to formally remain in his position until 1 August to ensure a smooth handover. His resignation came on the back of the worst season in 14 years for the top Dutch club which finished third in the Eredivisie. 
The footballer picked up the injury during a Premier League clash against Bournemouth on January 3. This came off a challenge from defender Marcos Senesi. Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby, Red Devil’s coach Erik Ten Hag revealed that Van de Beek has been ruled out of the season. He said; “It is his knee. On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season. The rest of the season he is out. Everyone has thoughts with him it is terrible. It was a bad tackle, a bad injury. 
“Our thoughts and feeling are with the player. We are building something good and you want to be part of it but because of that injury he is now out. The good news is that in the long term he will be back and his knee will be stable.” Sharing an update on his injury, Van de Beek wrote on Instagram; “I am really disappointed that the season is over for me. “After successful surgery, it’s time to start my recovery process and will do everything to come back stronger for this club. “Thank you all for the lovely messages, they mean a lot to me and my family.”
