Katsina United are facing sanctions from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for violating newly set dress code for players and staff. During their recent match against Sporting Lagos, a player from the club was seen wearing a jersey with a handwritten number, prompting the disciplinary action by the NPFL against Katsina United. The league officials are also tempted to report the match officials to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for allowing the player to participate in the game. Davidson Owumi, the Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, emphasized the league’s commitment to maintaining integrity and applying sanctions when rules are breached. Additionally, the club is accused of violating Rule C9 by failing to ensure the proper conduct of its officials, leading to an incident where the kit manager harassed an assistant referee. As a result, Katsina United has been ordered to pay ₦1 million for their actions, and the Kits Manager, Masudu Lawal, received a one-year ban from all NPFL activities for improper conduct.
Driver kills two road sweepers while evading LASMA arrest for traffic violation
On Monday, November 13, a driver attempting to escape arrest by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASMA) left a trail of devastation on the Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway, killing two roadside sweepers. The fleeing suspect, wanted for a traffic offense, collided with two members of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) at their duty post, resulting in the tragic death of both sanitation workers. According to eyewitness accounts, the LASMA officials had moved to arrest the driver for a traffic violation, but instead of complying, the driver opted to flee the scene. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the suspect rammed into the two LAWMA workers who were stationed by the roadside, leading to their immediate demise.
The scene quickly attracted the attention of security personnel, including the police, who arrived promptly. However, their intervention escalated tensions as tear gas was deployed to disperse protesters and restore order to the area. LAWMA, in a statement released in the aftermath of the incident, confirmed the untimely demise of the two sanitation workers. “LAWMA is working with security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the errant driver of the car, with vehicle number EPE 984 DV,” the statement read. “We wish to appeal to motorists for the umpteenth time, to drive with utmost caution on the highways, to avoid sad incidents like this happening to our sanitation workers or anyone in the course of their legitimate duties. The public is urged to remain calm as appropriate steps are being taken and necessary measures put in place. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased, whom we love most dearly. May their souls continue to rest in peace.” See below;
Detaining Naira Marley is a violation of human rights, Shubomi cries
The sister of musician, Naira Marley, Shubomi has come out to cry over his detention upon reaching Nigeria, calling it a violation of his human right. Recall that earlier this month, the police ordered Naira Marley and Sam Larry to be remanded in custody pending investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. Many Nigerians are actively seeking justice for the late Mohbad, especially after the singer died in very strange circumstances and some evidence indicted his former boss, Naira Marley for bullying him repeatedly. This situation seems to aggravate the sister to the musician who cried out on her Instagram story, claiming his detention was done in order to soothe the public. Shubomi, Naira Marley’s sister. In her words; “Keeping someone who willingly traveled back to help in detention for nearly 30 days, with no charge, no evidence, no sufficient witness is a violation of his human rights. Keeping him in custody to appease social media and the internet mob is crazy.” “If you have evidence against him for anything he’s been accused of charge him! But if you don’t release him. It shouldn’t take this long for the investigation to be done.” “We all want the truth! We all want justice. What is the delay? We’ve already lost one person, trying to lynch another is not going to bring about justice😔” Even though Shubomi acknowledges that God is in control, she prays nobody ever gets to experience being accused of an atrocity you have no hand in while trending the hashtag #freenairamarley. Under World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, the applicable sanction for three ‘whereabouts’ failures is two years’ ineligibility, subject to a reduction to a minimum of one year depending on an athlete’s degree of fault. Athletics has a three-strikes rule that states if an athlete does not provide accurate whereabouts information for a doping test they may incur a declaration of a missed test, or a filing failure. Three strikes in a 12-month period is an anti-doping violation. Amusan won the Silesia Diamond League meet on Sunday, her second Diamond League victory this season. She became the first Nigerian world champion and world record holder in an athletics event with her 2022 victory in Eugene, Ore., where she set the world record of 12.12 seconds.
