TOP NIGERIAN ARTISTES WHO MADE IT BIG IN THE YEAR 2017
Yes 2017 is about to come to an end and as it is customary in life some people have it good and some have it veeeeery very good.
In regards to the Nigerian music industry, despite going in to recession and then coming out of it, Business was good enough for some but it was awesome to some; who are these artistes?

10. NINIOLA:
Nini dey o o eh; don’t mind us we are sooooo in love with this delectable songstress who has strived to carve her name into stone on the music scene introducing an all new genre of music. She first dazzled us with Maradona (which was a banger by the way) then followed it up with another one SICKER and then capped it all off with an album tagged THIS IS ME. She won Nigerian teens choice award for choice female vocalist of the year and was nominated for city people entertainment award for female music artiste of the year as well as best artiste African electro at afrimma 2017.
9. Dj spinall:
we know a lot of you are wondering is spinall an artiste and why is he on this list; well, here’s ur answer… He is the first Nigerian DJ to be endorsed by any brand in Africa way back in 2015 which was renewed in 2016 and now in 2017. Asides that, he is also the first African DJ to tour in the United States with his #TheCAPTour which got him to be named the official dj for BET 2017 AWARDS. DJ SPINALL is also the first African DJ to perform at the SXSW Festival in the United States. To CAP it all off, he hosted one of the biggest album launch party #Thecrazyassparty of 2017 for his 2017 album DREAMs. SO tell us guys, does he deserve to be on this list or does he deserve to be called an artiste. 8. SIMISOLA:
Pretty, witty and gifted with an angelic voice simisola aka simi is a sensation we got to behold this year. After rocking our world in 2016 with great tracks she outdid herself in 2017 with even bigger tracks like smile for me, take me back, o wa n be and the lovely joromi off her self-titled album SIMISOLA. The album which was released on September 8 to positive reviews went on to debut at number five on the Billboard World Albums chart. Not just that, she won songwriters of the year award at AFRIMA 2017 and was nominated at the NEA awards for best afropop female act and for best album. Also, she landed a huge endorsement deal with a telecommunications company in Nigeria…
Talk about having a good year, does it get better than this? More to come!!!
7. Maleek berry:
He used to be a record producer (not that he doesn’t do it anymore) but he decided to leave the back of the curtain and step into the limelight; he gave us “For me” in late December 2016 and we were like dude you good.
In 2017 he dazzled us, he gave us back to back hit tracks like Eko Miami, Been Calling, Let me know off his EP titled “the last daze of summer” which has gathered over 70 million streams. It didn’t end there, he got nominated at the just concluded mobo awards for best male act and best African act.
6. Mayorkun:
Its mayorkun baby o; yes he made it to the list, how can we forget davido’s protégé who has given us songs to vibe to all through the year.
Firs-t it was Mama (which was reeeally awesome by the way); then he gave a his rendition of nonso amadi’s tonight (which he totally killed too), after that he gave us SADE which was totally awesome and to round it up he gave us CHE CHE which is currently bursting our brain. Not only were his songs a hit, his campus tour which he launched in May 2017 to several universities was the shizzle and his very own first concert is da bomb. Body o che che che!!!
5. Falz:
Yez yez y’aall its falz the bahd guy in the biiding and he is sitting comfortably at the table of our hearts. How? Well lets count it, first falz gave us a slang “Wehdonesir” and a song to go with it (which is soo cool), then we went through the love triangle saga between him, simi and adekunle gold (again).
Afterwards he gave us the Baby boy song, then came song jeje ; a mahd collabo with ycee on something light; an endorsement deal with luxury liquor brand, a totally sexy French song La fete, became the face of the pulse relaunch party. Not to mention his tours in the US and Uk. I mean its sucha awwwzome feeling….
4. TIWA SAVAGE:
Its tiwa saaaavage all over, all over and she keeps us going all over…… Tiwatope has got a lot of thanking to do coming back from motherhood to releasing some of the best songs of 2017… I mean tunes like all over, informate with dj kaywise, several collaborations all over Africa,MA LO with wizkid as well as her E.P sugarcane which has banging tracks that’s got fans jamming like her son’s name JAM JAM. Asides that BBC tv Listed her Among 100 Most Inspiring And Innovative Women In The World and she picked up the best female act at afrima 2017. Not forgetting getting back with Teebillz; Talk about a full year HUHN….
3. Tekno:
Alhaji Tekno has also been phenomenal this year, with him dropping the two letter words song titles or a girls name song title … Tekno gave us hitS back to back, he gave us go, be, yawa, mama with wizkid, Samantha and is almost done with his Album which we hope will drop before the year runs out.
This year tekno signed a record deal with Sony Music and was also unveiled as AN ambassador. Although he didn’t get any award nominations, Tekno went on tour through Africa and the united states breaking ladies heart along the way… oops lest we forget, this year he also started dating sexy delectable lola rae on and off; that’s an achievement too…
2. Wizkid:
Its wizzy baby; yes wizkid is definitely on the list. Did u think we will ever omit it?
Well, this year has been one of the biggest in wizzy’s career as he established himself more on the international scene. Asides fom being reportedly featured on beyonce’s yet to be released new album.
Performing in London with future or breaking records with his song come closer with drake, wizzy gave us some mahd tunes too, such as naughty ride, mad jam, daddy yo, sweet love and AFRICAN BAD GYAAALLL all from his EP sounds from the other side which features several international stars like drake, chris brown, future and many more.
Wizkid appeared on the list of the “MOST STREAMED ARTISTE ON SPOTIFY” alongside Kyla and Drake for their song one dance and he reportedly earned approximately N72milllion From “Come closer” and “My Love” streaming on Spotify. Not to forget that internet breaking picture with nicki minaj and of course his little bundle of joy ZION!!!, what a way to end the year.
1. Davido:
O.b.o baddest!!!!! Yes, he had the most amazing year of all… I mean who wont with 30 billion in their account. Not only is he omo baba olowo he is olowo himself. After he introduced us to a new sound and his 30 billion in IF, davido has been on a speedstar overtaking everyone and anyone.
Davido started his 30 billion world tour which were all sold out and while on tour he kept dropping jams like fall, pere ft rae shrrmurd, like that, p and the new banger FIA…. The singer picked up mobo awards for best African act, best African act and best worldwide act at THE emas, he also won award for Afro-pop male artiste of the year and the award for hottest single of the year for his hit single “If”.
The singer recently scored 100 million YouTube views for his 5 music video released in 2017. If, Fall, Fia, Pere and Like Dat has had over 53 million, 37 million, 5.5 million, 4.2 million and 1.2 million YouTube views respectively. Also, he bought iphone x for all his crew members and also made a diamond encrusted 30billion gang chain for his dmw signees… Talk about making it big!!!!
