The just concluded 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guide Awards was held on Sunday in LA, with stunning red carpet looks,enticing eye candy, and powerful, political acceptance speeches, there were also a handful of fun, candid moments going down.
Though the evening crowned a few widely predicted victors Emma Stone, Viola Davis, two cast members from. . . The Crown—a trio of unexpected winners stole the show near the end of the slightly over-long broadcast. Though Claire Foy and John Lithgow both won individual statuettes for their work on Netflix’s splashy Queen Elizabeth epic, another. Stranger Things, the streaming service’s nostalgia-soaked summer hit.
“This film is about unity; this is what happens when we put our differences aside,” said Taraji P. Henson – who plays mathematician Katherine Johnson – in accepting for Hidden Figures.
The actress dedicated the award to the trio of female African-American mathematicians at NASA who played a vital role in John Glenn’s orbital flight in 1962 – Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, along with Glenn.
“They are hidden figures no more.”
