A potential disaster was avoided on Sunday night when an aeroplane transporting the Arsenal women’s players goes up in flames on the runway.
The team was returning from their first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Wolfsburg. While attempting to take off at the Braunschweig Wolfsburg Airport, a bird flew into the engine of the aeroplane, causing a loud noise. This resulted in flames appearing from the left engine of the Boeing 737. Fortunately, the pilots promptly evacuated the passengers to safety. Arsenal issued a statement stating that the team arrived home safely on Monday morning. “Our aircraft developed a technical issue prior to take-off in Germany on Sunday evening. “As a result, we remained in Wolfsburg overnight on Sunday before flying back to England on Monday afternoon. We would like to thank the staff onboard the aircraft and on the ground at the airport for their assistance,” the statement reads.
