A Goal Keeper Just Broke Serie A Record With A Goal

Serie A goalkeeper Alberto Brignoli scored a historic 95th-minute goal as his team Benevento drew level with Italian giant AC Milan to create record for his team and the league.

Milan were leading 2-1 against the league’s bottom side when Brignoli made a superb move into the opposition’s box and headed home Danilo Cataldi’s free kick to end the encounter 2-2.

Brignoli’s equalizer earned his team the first Serie A point in its history and ended a record-breaking run of 14 defeats.

No team in the history of Europe’s top five leagues has lost more games at the start of the season than the Serie A debutant.

Speaking after the encounter, Brignoli who is on loan from Juventus admitted that he knew little about the goal.

“There was nothing to lose. I just closed my eyes and jumped; it was a goalkeeper’s goal, not a forward’s goal.

“I’m not just happy for me but for everyone. We’ve lost so many games undeservedly with goals in the 90th minute but now it’s our turn to celebrate,” Brignoli said.

The 26-year-old Brignoli is playing in Serie A for only the ninth time, and the team’s struggling goalkeeper.

Reports say his injury-time goal sparked wild celebrations and left the opposition manager proclaiming that a knife wound would have been easier to tolerate.

Brignoli had never scored a goal in his career and had a fairly unremarkable career.

He is on loan from Juventus, though he has never played for the champions since joining them in 2015 and he has had loan spells with Ternana, Sampdoria, Leganes and Perugia before joining Benevento this summer.
