PDP picks Ifeanyi Okowa as Atiku’s running mate

The opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has chosen Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta as Atiku’s running mate.
This comes shortly after the APC annouced  it’s provisional vice presidential candidate.

Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, who is the current governor of Delta state was selected among the South-East and South-South regions’ serving governors and qualified politicians.
After an intense contest with Governor Nyesom Wike of Delta, Mr Okowa was declared the winner. The decision was thought to be in the party’s best interests as it seeks re-election next year.

Mr Abubakar’s supporters, according to People’s Gazette, claim he chose Mr Okowa because he vowed to run a campaign focused solely on issues that matter to Nigerians, and Mr Wike’s combative attitude might disrupt that strategy.
It is also believed that the presidential candidate also wanted a running mate to help bridge the divide between the South-South and the South-East.
According to The People’s Gazette, Mr Wike was chosen as the favored candidate by a panel of PDP governors and politicians two days ago.
