The most recent Billboard Hot 100 chart shows that Nigerian superstar Rema continues to rise as his hit single ‘Calm Down’ achieves a new peak.
In the week of February 23rd, 2023, the remix of ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez enters the chart at No. 25, two spots higher than its previous position of No. 27. This is the 27th week for ‘Calm Down‘ on the chart, and it is now the second-highest-charting Afrobeats song after Wizkid’s ‘Essence’, which reached No. 9 following the success of the Justin Bieber remix. Tems also appears on the chart with Future’s ‘Wait For U’, which maintains its position at No. 36 and has been on the chart for 39 weeks.
Regarding the US Afrobeats Songs Chart, the top 10 had minimal changes this week. Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix retains the No. 1 spot for 25 weeks and remains on the chart for its 48th week. ‘People’ by Libianca stays at No. 2, while Tems’ ‘Higher’ remains at No. 3, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ is at No. 4, and Wizkid‘s ‘Essence’ moves up to No. 5. Burna Boy‘s ‘Last Last’ drops to No. 6, CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ moves up to No. 7, while ‘Alone’ drops to No. 8. Fireboy’s ‘Peru’ and Oxlade’s ‘Kulosa’ retain the 9th and 10th spots, respectively. As for debuts this week, Ayra Starr’s ‘Sability’ debuts at No. 14, Spyro’s ‘Who’s Your Guy’ debuts at No. 27, and Pheelz’s ‘Pheelz Like Summer’ debuts at No. 44.
The music video which was released in Feb 2022 as part of Rema’s debut album “Raves & Roses,” rose quickly and gained worldwide success, particularly after featuring Selena Gomez on the remix. The video reached 100 million views in under 3 months, making it the fastest Afrobeats single to achieve this milestone. Selena Gomez’s remix also boosted its popularity, reaching No. 8 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video’s latest accomplishment is being named the most-watched Nigerian music video on YouTube as confirmed by music chart publication, TurnTable Charts on Jan 29, 2023. 
Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor outdid his peers following yet another astounding feat. He made this breakthrough known via the micro-blogging platform, Twitter. “Number 1 in India”, Rema wrote. Since Rema’s new feat aired, a viral throwback video of him has made the rounds on social media. In the video, the Mavin record star revealed that he has been criticized severely for sounding Indian.
