Enzo Fernandez’s father, Raul has revealed that his son will be asking Chelsea’s new coach, Maurico Pochettino for a role change at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old Argentine midfielder who is yet to score a goal for Chelsea, played a deep role in midfield under Graham Potter and Frank Lampard.

Source: Getty That could change under Pochettino though, with Enzo Fernandez’s father revealing that his son planned to speak to the new Chelsea boss about a slightly different role, as he looks to help the club get back to challenging for the Premier League title. Raul Fernandez who spoke to The Chelsea Spot said; “Enzo is comfortable, happy, and adjusting to London. He was happy about the arrival of Pochettino. Next season? My son wants to be a champion. “I think [we will see Enzo play further forward]. He was going to ask [Pochettino] to play further advanced.” The Argentine who helped his country to World Cup glory at Qatar 2022, became the most expensive player in British football after joining the Blues for £106 million ($137m) in January. He impressed in his first few months at Stamford Bridge, despite the Blues’ collective struggles which saw finish 12th last season.

Source: Getty Fernandez made 22 appearances for Chelsea during his debut campaign, but Chelsea’s poor performance means they won’t be featuring in any European competition next season. Chelsea are reported to be in the market for another holding option, as France international N’Golo Kante prepares to depart as a free agent. Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo continues to be strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and the Blues are seemingly favourites to land the Brighton star as Arsenal focus their efforts on completing a deal for Declan Rice. Talks are now at an advanced stage with Brighton as the two clubs look to agree a fee with personal terms already agreed.
13-year-old Enzo signed his first contract with Real Madrid last year and will continue to develop as a center-forward in their youth set-up. Since he’s already in Spain, it makes sense that he would feel a strong connection to the European country. This is also an opportunity for him to forge his path. 
“Chelsea are overpaying for players, I still don’t think the majority of their first XI gets anywhere near Man City’s team. “I’ve watched Enzo Fernandez live and he’s decent, but he’s not £100m. They’ve been absolutely bent over there. “But he’s not Casemiro, he’s not Rodri. They’re overspending on players, clubs are seeing Chelsea come and they’re basically just pulling their pants down.” 
The 22-year-old Argentine midfielder agreed to an eight-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2031. The move comes after an intense transfer saga that went right down to the wire after initial negotiations with the Portuguese club were unsuccessful. Talks were revived late in the window, and Chelsea’s owners reached a deal with Benfica late on Tuesday evening. 
Benfica confirmed the sale of Fernandez in a statement on Tuesday night for transfer fee that breaks the British transfer record set by Jack Grealish in 2021. Chelsea had also tried signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo late in the window, while they sold Jorginho to Arsenal and decided to keep Conor Gallagher in a string of high-stakes midfield decisions.
