Liverpool legend, Danny Murphy has claimed that Chelsea overpaid for Argentina international, Enzo Fernandez.
Recall that Chelsea signed Enzo from Benfica for a record fee of £106.8m. The 22-year-old who only joined Benfica last summer for around £10m, signed an eight-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford Bridge which would keep him at the club until the summer of 2031. The deal also made him the most expensive signing in British football. Commenting on the deal, Murphy stated that Enzo Fernandez is not worth that amount as Manchester United and Manchester City stars, Casemiro and Rodri are better than him. He told talkSPORT; “Chelsea are overpaying for players, I still don’t think the majority of their first XI gets anywhere near Man City’s team. “I’ve watched Enzo Fernandez live and he’s decent, but he’s not £100m. They’ve been absolutely bent over there. “But he’s not Casemiro, he’s not Rodri. They’re overspending on players, clubs are seeing Chelsea come and they’re basically just pulling their pants down.”
