French footballer and Atletico Madrid star, Antoine Griezmann has opened up on his ambition to join the Major League Soccer (MLS). 32-year-old Griezmann was one of the standout players in La Liga last season, scoring 15 goals and providing 17 assists in 38 competitive appearances. The Frenchman is viewed as an integral member of Diego Simeone’s side but it seems he has no intention of remaining at the club.

Source: Getty A recent report claimed that Griezmann has a surprisingly low release clause in his contract believed to be €25m (£21.4m), this has alerted a number of Premier League clubs. Teams from Saudi Pro League have also shown interest in him even though MLS has been mooted as a potential destination for Antoine Griezmann who has expressed his desire to finish his career in the USA. With Griezmann earning £345,000 per week, there was a suggestion that Atletico could be tempted to sell the French footballer. La Liga’s strict salary limit is an issue for Atletico, and offloading Griezmann would allow them to improve their economic situation. Speaking at a press conference this weekend, Antoine Griezmann said;

I want it to be the best possible conditions when I go there, but it’s certainly an objective in the future.” Griezmann initially returned to Atletico on loan from Barcelona in 2021, and that move was made permanent last October after a lengthy saga that saw the club successfully avoid paying his €40 million release clause. Griezmann is currently with the French national team for their latest set of Euro 2024 qualifiers. Les Bleus are set to face Greece on Monday, June 19. In his two spells as an Atletico player, he has scored 157 goals and provided 76 assists in 341 appearances across all competitions.

They are bottom of the Eastern Conference and have just sacked Phil Neville as manager. Javier Morales is their interim head coach. The Athletic reported that the Argentine legend’s decision to join Inter Miami was partly influenced by commercial partners Apple and adidas. Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, has scored 32 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions for French giants PSG, winning back-to-back Ligue 1 titles, following his transfer from boyhood club Barcelona in 2021.
