Cristiano Ronaldo was mocked with chants for his rival Lionel Messi by opposition fans during Al-Nassr’s Saudi Super Cup semi-final defeat to Al-Ittihad on Thursday, January 26.
The 37-year-old superstar who is yet to score for the Saudi side in two games, was a peripheral figure in Al-Nassr‘s defeat and footage has emerged of the Al-Ittihad fans chanting: ‘Messi, Messi, Messi’. This occurred while Ronaldo was entering the game venue. 🔥 جماهير الاتحاد تردد باسم اللاعب ( ميسي ) لحظة دخول لاعب فريق النصر ( كريستيانو رونالدو )#الاتحاد_النصر pic.twitter.com/WnYSswNClu — قصي نقادي (@Qusay_itfc) January 26, 2023 The former Manchester United star almost opened his account for Al-Nassr with a powerful close-range header but he was denied by a smart save. Al-Nassr went on to lose 3-1 to Al-Ittihad and have now been booted out from championship contention.
Ronaldo has managed just one shot on target across both appearances for Al-Nassr. Recall that the Portuguese striker completed a £175m-a-year move to Al-Nassr at the end of December following a bitter end to his Man United career.
