No music industry gist is complete without telling the story of the upcoming acts, I mean they literarily give us something to look forward to and in the year 2017 were able to hold their own and didn’t really disappoint.
Thoughout 2017 was kinda tough on them with the big guys refusing to let down their guard but then they still managed to catch our attention. So without much ado, here are the upcoming acts that caught our attention in 2017

At number 10 is Demmie vee;
He signed to HND records after he was discovered by the label owner at a car wash, demmie has managed to put his name and sound in the mind of music lovers. He blessed our ears with a collaboration with 2baba in Awesome God, an afro pop gospel tune which paved the way for him. Later, he dropped another tune titled “love me tender” featuring the ancestor himself 9ice with a crisp video to go with it. It didn’t end there, he also released another song titled figure 8 which is making its round on tv and radio station playlist. It is obvious that demmie’s label has money and connect to play with (not that that’s bad)…..
At number 9, BELLA
Tinny entertainment’s first lady has forced us to reckon with her and her music. This year she got signed to Tinny Ent, featured Ycee on a song RADIO which got daily airplay, she went on tour with Dremo and so much more. Things are really looking up for this belle.
At number 8 is Nonso Amadi;
HE IS A self taught music producer but is on our list because of the captivating rhythms he has used to catch our attention. This year, he released a new single “Tonight” so good that it was covered by mayorkun; also, he released another jam RADIO which is also getting attention everywhere.
At number 7, Jon Ogah,
He didn’t win bbnaija as he was a fake contestant but he still manage to get our attention after he left the house. John oga who has always been AN artiste but didn’t make it then caught our eye when he dropped the remix of his song Uncle SURU featuring Adekunle Gold and Simi and our attention he got…
On number 6 spot is Zlatan Ibile;
Omoniyi temidayo also known as zlatan ibile came into the music scene in 2014 when he won the One Mic Campus Tour in Ogun state which got him signed to Coded Records and has since been dropping different jams. He became more prominent in 2016 with the popular social media sensation segun wire whom he took under his tutelage to give a better life. However, in 2017, zlatan managed to prove to us that he’s got what it takes, he dropped a self titled single “zlatan” which documents his pain and struggle through life after which he dropped a dance track featuring olamide titled MY BODY!!! Which is one of the top street songs of 2017. Just like his name Zlatan modeled after the footballer Ibrahimovic, he is indeed skillful on the microphone.
Number 5 DJ CONSEQUENCE,
The vibes machine as he is fondly called is a dj that has been around the music industry for a while now but decided to take it up a notch by having his own songs,he started in 2014 but got his big break this year with 3 massive tracks, banging ft reekado banks, blow the whistle ft mayorkun and the biggest of them all IS assignment ft olamide and produced by youngjohn which is currently disturbing the streets plus he was nominated for best dj at the just concluded NEA awards. For those of you thinking a dj is not an artiste, think again….
At number 4, DAPO TUBURNA,
Tinny entertainment’s singer, dapo turburna caught our attention after dropping the remix of his song NOTHING featuring label mate Ycee and ybnl boss Olamide. The song put his name on all music lover’s radar and he’s been on a steady growth. He just recently released a new single tagged African lady which is doing pretty well….
At number 3, we’ve got Destiny boy;
Destiny boy became a force to reckon with when a video of him singing the fuji version of davido’s hit song IF hit the internet and since then a lot of music lovers are paying attention to his talent. He has gone on to release covers for different songs including FIA by davido, Focus by Humblesmith , juice by ycee, wo by olamide and his very own rack omo better.
Chilling at Number 2 spot is EFE.
Yep big brother naija winner efe the warri boy definitely caught our attention this year even afer winning the reality show. He dazzled us with singles like based on logistics (which is his signature phrase), Somebody (a feel good tune), mary is a bad girl, I love you and warri featuring Olamide. Despite numerous criticism of his pidgin style of rap, efe still stuck it out with music.
And the number 1 spot goes to TENI…
It all started like a whisper in December 2016, and slowly began to creep into our ears and our hearts. Teni entertainer became an internet sensation based on her numerous Instagram freestyle videos which has made every one aware of her enormous talent. After dropping her prayer themed song titled Amen, teni has been receiving positive reviews and feedback but nothing compared to the love she got after releasing FARGIN. Yes that song FARGIN an adaptation of the english word, Virgin, which addresses the issue of rape and sexual exploitation which got fans and industry folks alike requesting for more… No doubt next year is gonna be bigger for this amazing talent
