Recall that Martinez had defended his mind games after the final which Argentina won. He said at the time; “It’s a moment that I always have to give to my teammates, they scored three goals against me and it hurt, but then I did everything right. It was a game of suffering, just two efforts against us and they drew level with us. “It is in this moment that I have to give my teammates peace of mind. I could have stopped it [Mbappe’s penalty] too, I dived badly. But then I did everything right. I have no words for it. “I was calm during the penalty shootout and everything went as we wanted. All that I have dreamed of has been achieved. To my family, I came from a very humble place, I left when I was very young to England and I want to dedicate it to them.”

Martinez’s antics also attracted criticism from Arsenal legend, Ian Wright. He alleged that the goalkeeper “crossed the line”. Speaking to Ringer’s FC podcast three days after the final, Wright said; “I look at Emi Martinez, remember the s***housery with Auba [Martinez tried to put off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when he stepped up to take a penalty against Aston Villa in October 2021] and all that stuff he was doing at Arsenal. “I was thinking this guy is going to go to another level of s***housery if this final goes to penalties. And he did. I like Emi but what he did in the penalty shootout crossed the line, in respect of sportsmanship. He crossed the line.” Football lawmakers are now set to ban goalkeepers from distracting penalty-takers. According to The Sun, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) is set to introduce new rules to ban keepers from acting in a way that puts off opponents from the spot.

IFAB’s new rules may also stop goalkeepers from dancing or making amusing gestures on the goal line as that is also seen as a distraction. The new penalty rules will be ratified at IFAB’s annual general meeting in March before they are officially introduced into the laws of the game.

Vieira who spoke to journalists said there’s a “dark side” to how Argentina has celebrated their World Cup win and has also treated Mbappe.
He said;
“When you are talking about the abuse and the comments that he received after the World Cup, I think that is damaging the game and himself.
“Some of the pictures that I saw from the Argentina goalkeeper took away a little bit from what Argentina achieved at the World Cup. I don’t think that they really needed that. You can’t control sometimes people’s emotions or decisions, but that was a stupid decision from Martinez to do that.”

Vieira also condemned the racist songs directed at Mbappe after Argentina won the World Cup for the third time.
He added;
“I was really disappointed because I heard the same songs as you. I was really disappointed. I want to have a picture of the Argentina fans with the passion and the love they showed during those games.
“Of course, they won the World Cup, but in the stands, they were the best as well. I want to keep that in my mind and not think about those stupid fans who put some darkness on top of what Argentina achieved on and off the field. This is the dark side of the Argentina World Cup win.”

While Mbappe got four goals past Martinez during the World Cup final match, the Argentine goalkeeper has been enmeshed in a one-sided feud with the French footballer.
Martinez who declared Mbappe “dead” and also asked for a “one-minute” silence for him during Argentina’s dressing room celebration after winning the World Cup, has also been spotted holding an Mbappe doll next to Lionel Messi on the team’s open-top bus parade.

Speaking in an interview with Ouest-France, FFF president Noel Le Graet confirmed they’ve filed a complaint against Martinez whose action he said is “shocking” and “abnormal”.
Graet said;
“We have launched different procedures. It is very shocking. These are boys who have given the best of themselves for the France team to succeed. It is important that we support them. I wrote to my counterpart from the Argentine Football Association. I find these excesses abnormal in the context of sports competition, and I find it difficult to understand. It goes too far. Mbappe’s behaviour was exemplary.”

Days after he called for a “minute silence” for Kylian Mbappe who he said is “dead”, Argentina’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has continued trolling the French striker over a comment he made about South American football.
Before the 2022 World Cup was concluded, Martinez tackled Mbappe during a press conference on Saturday, December 17, over an old comment he made about the quality of South American football.

The French footballer was quoted saying in May that European nations are better prepared for the World Cup because they play “high-level matches all the time” against each other, whereas Argentina and Brazil do not face the same demands.
When Martinez was asked what he thinks about the comment Mbappe made, he stated that the PSG star doesn’t know enough about football.
During Argentina’s trophy parade on Tuesday, December 20, Martinez was captured trolling Mbappe as he partied on the open-top bus.

The goalkeeper was spotted carrying a baby toy that had the Paris Saint Germain superstar’s face on it. Many however felt he was being petty as the striker scored four goals against him during the match.
That was not the first time Martinez has been involved in a controversial celebration, after collecting his Golden Glove trophy, he placed it on his crotch area and gestured towards the crowd as he walked off the stage.
