Konate slams critics of Kylian Mbappe's captaincy credentials France’s coach, Didier Deschamps announced on Tuesday, March 22, that Mbappe will be taking over from Hugo Lloris and Raphael Varane who retired after the 2022 World Cup with a silver medal. While so many questions have been raised over whether Mbappe is deserving of the armband, Konate labeled his teammate’s critics as “crazy”, adding that he’s a very good leader, on and off the pitch. The Liverpool defender told Eurosport; “Even if I had a say in this, it would not change a thing. It’s the coach’s decision but I’m very happy. Honestly, Kylian deserves it. We’re unanimous on this. He deserves it with what he’s done at the World Cup and with PSG as well. Konate slams critics of Kylian Mbappe's captaincy credentials “He’s a very good leader, on and off the pitch. He’s a young lad who loves to laugh and have fun, nothing more. He’s a very good person. Some may think he’s arrogant. It’s something I was asked about in my club and elsewhere. To them, I say ‘Are you crazy? He’s so nice.’ Of course, he will be a good skipper.” Also responding to claim of Atletico Madrid star, Antonio Griezmann who turned 32 on the day of the announcement, reacting badly to it, Konate added; “I did not see him sulking at all. Besides, it’s his birthday.“

Former Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi has recalled how the Gunners missed out on signing French football star, Kylian Mbappe, in 2013. Arsenal almost signed Kylian Mbappe in 2013 Grimandi who worked as an Arsenal scout for 13 years, said they held talks with Mbappe before losing him to Monaco. He told The Sun; “The job of scouting is about finding but also missing players. For me, it is Kylian Mbappe. We just could not convince him. Arsenal almost signed Kylian Mbappe in 2013 “He was out of contract in June 2013 and we met him in February. If we could have convinced him to join, he would have changed the club — but he then decided on Monaco.  “Arsenal were not always playing their best so it was quite complicated. At first it was easy, as soon as we talked to a player he wanted to sign it. However, if you are not getting results it is difficult to bring top players to help the team. That’s why it is important to stay at the top for as long as possible. It is so much easier. Yet the likes of Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah, who I watched develop, prove you should never forget the talent you have inside your club, even in difficult times.”

And nothing that had to do with the World Cup at that time, that’s why I don’t want to talk about it either. But the truth is that there is no problem with Kylian, quite the opposite.”

That was not the first time Martinez has been involved in a controversial celebration, after collecting his Golden Glove trophy, he placed it on his crotch area and gestured towards the crowd as he walked off the stage.
