On Thursday, a grand jury in Manhattan voted to indict Trump. This is the first time a former U.S. president has faced criminal charges in the history of the US. This indictment comes after an amount of $130,000 was paid to adult film star, Stormy Daniels during the last days of the 2016 presidential campaign. According to the porn star, he slept with Donald Trump in 2006, a claim Donald has denied vehemently. According to him, the payment made to Stormy Daniels was a reimbursement of a legal expense. The indictment was confirmed by a spokesperson for the DA’s office while disclosing that Trump will be appearing before the court on Tuesday for his felony arraignment and tax fraud. Although the charges on Trump are unknown yet, the DA has confirmed the charge of falsifying business records which amounts to a four-year prison sentence.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the presidential candidate for APC, Bola Tinubu with a total of 8,794,726 whereas his other rivals and candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, polled 6,984, 520 and 6,101,533 respectively.

The chairman of the transition committee, Mustapha told journalists, “all litigation, whether resolved or not, will not in any way stop the process”. He added that Buhari will not stay beyond the time allowed by the constitution. “The security committee has the responsibility to ensure that nothing happens to truncate the transition process. Nigerians are very law-abiding people”. “There are provided avenues for those” who lost in the election “to make whatever legal inquiry they want to make but the process would continue unabated”. We would not create another constitutional crisis; on May 29, the handing over will take place,” he assured.

President Buhari congratulates Bola Tinubu

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari congratulates the winner of the 2023 presidential elections, Bola Tinubu.

Buhari

It will be recalled that the Presidental Election was held on the 25th of February, 2023. Following the voting exercise, the Independent and National Electoral Commission, INEC declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 general elections on Wednesday, 1st of March, 2023. As a show of courtesy, President Buhari has penned a lengthy congratulatory message to the winner. STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENT BUHARI CONGRATULATES WINNER OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU
President Muhammadu Buhari heartily congratulates the winner of the (2023) Presidential Election, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reacting to the results just announced, President Buhari said: “I congratulate His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory. Elected by the people, he is the best person for the job. I shall now work with him and his team to ensure an orderly handover of power. The election was Africa’s largest democratic exercise. In a region that has undergone backsliding and military coups in recent years, this election demonstrates democracy’s continued relevance and capability to deliver for the people it serves. “Within Nigeria, the results reveal democracy’s ripening in our country. Never has the electoral map shifted so drastically in one cycle. In the presidential elections, states in all regions across the nation changed colour. Some amongst you may have noticed my home state amongst them. The winning candidate did not carry his own home state either. That happens during a competitive election. Votes and those that cast them cannot be taken for granted. Each must be earned. Competition is good for our democracy. There is no doubt the people’s decision has been rendered in the results we look at today.
“That is not to say the exercise was without fault. For instance, there were technical problems with electronic transmission of the results. Of course, there will be areas that need work to bring further transparency and credibility to the voting procedure. However, none of the issues registered represent a challenge to the freeness and fairness of the elections.
“I know some politicians and candidates may not agree with this view. That too is fine. If any candidate believes they can prove the fraud they claim is committed against them, then bring forward the evidence. If they cannot, then we must conclude that the election was indeed the people’s will — no matter how hard that may be for the losers to accept. If they feel the need to challenge, please take it to the courts, not to the streets.
“However, to do the latter means they are not doing it in the interest of the people, but rather to inflame, to put people in harm’s way and all for personal, selfish gains. “After a degree of polarization that necessarily accompanies any election, it is now time to come together and act responsibly. I call on all candidates to remember the peace pledge they signed just days before the election. Do not undermine the credibility of INEC. Let us now move forward as one. The people have spoken.”
