"They said my behavior was abnormal and un-Nigerian" – Man recalls how he was arrested at bank for 'calmly waiting' while others were rushing

A man has related how he was reportedly arrested at a bank because he exercised patience and calmly waited his turn while other customers were rushing to get their money.

Man arrested bank waiting abnormal un-Nigerian behavior

The story was shared by a Nigerian man identified as Najeeb Bello Oyarese on Twitter while responding to a tweet which asked people to share their arrest story. According to the Oyarese, he was at the bank in Benin patiently waiting in line for two hours at a bank on a Friday while others were scrambling to collect their cash. He claimed that some officers of DSS extraction had arrested him because they had found his behavior ‘very abnormal and unNigerian’.

The backstory, as told by the narrator which led up to his arrest, was that the DSS had supposedly been monitoring two men to tender a check at the counter so they can arrest them in the act. They had however noticed that the narrator had been in the bank for over two hours and had not been showing eagerness to take his own money, which led them to suspect and apprehend him. Read his full narration below: “Benin was the craziest because DSS arrested me in GTBank, Sapele Road because I entered the bank on a Friday and calmly waited for hours while others were rushing to get their money. They said my behaviour was very abnormal and unNigerian. 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ By the way, this is the worst day of my life and I plan to make a movie about it. It started with me taking a bus from UNIBEN to Ring Road on a rainy day, and the bus parked up inside a big pool of mud at Uselu. Passengers had to come out in the rain and wade through the mud. The day ended with me finally arriving back in Ekosodin and my neighbours came out of the hostel begging me that they had messed up big time. What happened? They took my keys to watch movies in my room, tried to keep the key back on top of my window, but it fell into the room. Anyway, middle of the story….when they brought those 2 criminals out, they used one handcuff to cuff them together, but immediately I got out of the bank, they used a brand new pair of silver handcuffs to cuff my hands together, as per mastermind. It had to be a nightmare! The worst part was the way bank staff I had known for years reacted: “Ah! Sadiq’s brother is among them? You can never really trust people O!” 🙆🏾🙆🏾‍♀️🙆🏾‍♂️ Only one came out to ask if he could call my brother. I said no. Asked him to reach into my wallet, ‘call General Zibiri’! General Zibiri talked to the DSS team lead, and all I heard was “I’m sorry sir, Yes sir, I’m sorry sir, Yes sir”. After the call he told his men, “Let him go!”. They uncuffed me, and I walked up to him. Asked ‘Is that all?’. He apologized, and that was when I asked him why… He said he was observing the 2 criminals waiting for them to tender the cheque again so he could arrest, then he noticed me having entered the bank for more than 2 hours, I seemed unbothered about getting my money. I wasn’t rushing, wasn’t stressing. Very unNigerian and abnormal.”

Basket Mouth Elsie Uzoma marriage hard work

Elsie Uzoma, the estranged wife of popular comedian Bright Okpocha a.k.a Basket Mouth, has urged Nigerians to stop marriage-shaming women.

According to the mother of two whose marriage with Basket Mouth recently crashed, women are always being shamed for not getting married at a certain age.
She said that people need to understand that when a woman isn’t married it’s because she’s probably taking her time or hasn’t found the right person yet.
Marriage is hard work, she said, and if people are forced to get married without being prepared, they might end up rush out of the marriage eventually.
