FBI set to sell Woodberry's N3.2Bn worth bitcoin, calls for interested buyers

The U.S. authorities reveals their plan to sell off 152 bitcoin confiscated from internet fraudster, Olalekan Jacob Ponle, a.k.a Mr. Woodberry, after he pleaded guilty to an $8 million wire fraud. According to a document filed on Friday at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Marshal Service will assume custody of the seized cryptocurrency for disposal, The People Gazette reported.

Nigerian Internet fraudster, Olalekan Jacob Ponle, also known as Mr. Woodberry. This decision follows Mr. Woodberry’s agreement to forfeit all proceeds from the wire fraud scheme, which he orchestrated under the alias ‘Mark Kain’. Interested individuals are encouraged by federal authorities to file a claim for the seized property within 30 days and provide valid documentation during the registration process. The statement reads in part, “Provide written notice to any person known to have alleged an interest in the property that is the subject of the preliminary order of forfeiture.” “The United States shall publish notice of this order and of its intent to dispose of the property.” the federal authorities said in the motion filed by Morris Pasqual, an acting U.S. attorney overseeing the case. It added, “The United States requests that the terms and conditions of this preliminary order of forfeiture entered by this court be made part of the sentence imposed against defendant Olalekan Jacob Ponle and included in any judgment and commitment order entered in this case against him.” It is worth noting that while residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, he recruited a minimum of four money launderers. He was, however, apprehended by law enforcement authorities in Dubai and subsequently transferred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI in 2020. He was then promptly transported to Chicago, where he has been undergoing trial. On June 29, federal prosecutors asked a judge to sentence, Mr Woodberry, to 14 years’ imprisonment for the fraud he committed between January and September 2019.

Newcastle set to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester

Newcastle United are closing in on the signing of Harvey Barnes and hope to agree a deal with Leicester City for the winger over the next week. Barnes has been a target of West Ham United, who had been at the front of the queue, and Aston Villa, but Newcastle have stolen a march on their rivals.

Source: Getty It is expected that Newcastle will submit their first bid for Barnes over the next few days, with the player keen to join the Champions League club. Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe wants to increase his options on the left wing and the club is expected to win the race for Barnes, who is likely to cost around £35m. Howe often used Alexander Isak, Miguel Almirón, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Anthony Gordon in the wide positions last season. Newcastle could make space for Barnes by selling Saint-Maximin, who has interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, and need to add depth as they prepare to compete in the Champions League. Leicester have been resigned to losing Barnes since their relegation from the Premier League. They had hoped to receive £50m for the England international, who scored 13 goals last season, but are likely to have to settle for less. Newcastle had a bid rejected for the 25-year-old last summer. Newcastle had already announced the £60 million signing of Sandro Tonali earlier this week. The deal made the midfielder the most expensive Italian of all time, £11m more than the £49m Chelsea paid for Jorginho in 2018. The star has penned a five-year contract, which includes the option of a further 12 months, at St. James’ Park and can’t wait to get started for his new club.

Ohanaeze youth tells JAMB to set another test for Mmesoma

The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to bring Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme’s alleged results falsification case to rest by testing her with another examination. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Miss Ejikeme, erstwhile student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi in Anambra, had celebrated her emergence as the candidate with the highest score in the year 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Ohanaeze youth tells JAMB to set another test for Mmesoma

JAMB, in a statement on Sunday signed by its Spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, however, accused Miss Ejikeme of inflating her results to curry favour, adding that the result would be withdrawn as she would have to face prosecution. Speaking with newsmen in Owerri, on Tuesday, the Financial Secretary of the Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Mazi Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa, called on the examination board to put the matter to rest by resetting the examination for Miss Ejikeme. Arthur-Ugwa described the situation as `embarrassing’ to the candidate, JAMB, and Nigeria in general and called on the Board to immediately clear its image and that of the nation. He added that the allegation would come with negative psychological and emotional effects on Mmesoma. Arthu-Ugwa called on the body to “desist from causing harm” in any form or by any means on an innocent youth who had yet to be pronounced guilty by the results of ongoing investigations into the matter. “Only another examination supervised by independent observers will bring this matter to rest and we will avail ourselves to be part of the supervision if need be,” he said. According to him, the Board had never complained of any attempt to manipulate its website, hence the need for the board not to preempt investigations. “Only a few years back, JAMB told us how a snake swallowed a huge sum of money in one of its offices; today we are being told that the results of an examination that should admit students into our hallowed tertiary institutions can no longer be trusted for what they are. “JAMB must, as a matter of national importance, realise the seriousness of its role in society and stop being in the news for the wrong reasons. “If its management can no longer hold forth, then let the Federal Government overhaul the entire board and save our country and her people from needless embarrassment’’, he said. NAN however, reports that Miss Ejikeme has denied the allegations, insisting that she scored a total of 362 marks in the examination as against JAMB’s 249 and adding that she printed the result from the board’s portal.
