BALE
The Wales international netted his first Champions League goal in almost two years as Los Blancos hit five against Warsaw on Tuesday
Remarkably, for a man who has netted so many times for club and country in recent times, Gareth Bale ended a personal goal drought while in Champions League action for Real Madrid on Tuesday.
The Wales international already had three domestic efforts to his name heading into midweek, but will have been aware of an unfortunate lack of end product in European competition.
In fact, prior to a meeting with Legia Warsaw, Bale had gone close to two years without finding the target in continental competition.
That streak has now been ended, though, with just 16 minutes required to break the deadlock at Santiago Bernabeu.
Bale’s early strike opened the floodgates for Real, with the only surprise being that Cristiano Ronaldo did not get in on the act as Zinedine Zidane’s side cruised to a 5-1 win.
Next up for Los Blancos is a home date with Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, in which they will hope to cement their standing among the early title challengers in the Spanish top-flight
