GREATEST FOOTBALL SAVE EVER
It takes a very special kind of footballer to have a move named after them.
There’s the Cruyff turn. The Robbie Carlos banana free-kick. The Cristiano knuckleball.
But there is one move that is so directly associated with one player, it doesn’t even need to have his name attached to it. We speak, of course, of The Scorpion Kick – and Rene Higuita.
The Colombian lunatic/goalkeeper performed the world’s maddest ever save against England in 1995, using his “unconventional” methods to stop a Jamie Redknapp free-kick.
Now, to mark the 20th anniversary of the occasion, Higuita has recorded the above video to show that he can still do it.
